Speaking of 3Ware/RAID/SATA/9550SX...
I just built up a server running CentOS 4.3, and trying to boot from a 3Ware 9550SX-16ML, 16 port card. This system has 9x500GB drives, AMD Opteron, Tyan K8SD mobo and 1 GB of ram. I downloaded the latest (9.3.0.4) driver from 3Ware, and after a couple of botched attempts, I got CentOS installed. In my two botched attempts, the problem was X hanging during the formatting of the drives,...

3ware 9650SE success
...on this list regarding the new series of cards from 3ware, and wanted to follow up with some real-world results. My test motherboard was an Intel D945GTPLKR (a desktop board). I was able to use the motherboard video and plug the 3ware card into the PCIe x16 slot. The card I was testing with (16ML) is a PCIe x8 card. Hardware-wise, everything worked without a hitch. Kinda cool to be able to get high bus performance out of a desktop motherboard. I guess we all can thank the gamers for that. The driver in the currently-shipping CentOS kernel (2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp) didn't know what to...

mdadm and drive identification?
I have a server that has 16 drives in it. They are connected to a 3ware 9650SE-16ML SATA RAID card. I have the card set to export all the drives as JBOD because I prefer Linux to do the reporting of drive and RAID health . I'm using mdadm to create a RAID6 with a hot spare. Doing this I can take the disks and put them on a completely different SATA controller/computer and stil...

Xen SAN Questions
Hello Everyone, I recently had a question that got no responses about GFS+DRBD clusters for Xen VM storage, but after some consideration (and a lot of Googling) I have a couple of new questions. Basically what we have here are two servers that will each have a RAID-5 array filled up with 5 x 320GB SATA drives, I want to have these as useable file systems on both servers (as they will both be
