Help!!!! Gettting samba core dumps
I transferred a Xen vm that was running on centos 5.7 with samba 3.6.3 to
a centos 6.2 bare metal server with one E5502 and 16gig of memory. I have
been running Centos for 6 years on different servers for 6 years on several
different upgrades.
This new server has a dual network card in it. I have samba 3.6.3 on it and
here is the smb.conf below:
[global]

Xen Cloud questions
I''m using Xen 3.4 on Debian Lenny, and a web interface (still in dev),
to have a eye on all the stuff.
I saw the Xen Cloud project, but I have some questions about it.
Can I summarize Xen Cloud like this : "latest" Xen Hypervisor with
"improved" API (OCaml replacing python and more stuff) which enhance
informations about all Xen hypervisors in same time, to provide a

Rails Camp Scaling Session notes
...ounddrb is used. This releases the lock on the worker. Also look
at ‘merb’ – mongrel plus erb. First use for this is image upload.
* In a typical rails environment image upload locks process.
* Worst case – 100Meg mongrel processes, 1000threads
simultaneously. That’s 100Gig, @ 16Gig per machine makes for 8
machines.. Not a big deal.
Array implementation and rails calls
* Supposedly each rails call creates 60000(!) arrays.
* There is a patch to make Array implementation quicker – but it is
not accepted yet.
Problem with Ruby is some guys hobby
* At rubyconf matz’s...

ZFS gzip Death Spiral Revisited
I have the following configuation.
My storage:
12 luns from a Clariion 3x80. Each LUN is a whole 6 disk raid-6.
My host:
Sun t5240 with 32 hardware threads and 16gig of ram.
My zpool:
all 12 luns from the clariion in a simple pool
My test data:
A 1 gig backup file of a ufsdump from /opt on a machine with lots of
mixed binary/text data.
A 15gig file that is already tightly compressed.
I wrote some benchmarks and tested. This system is completely idle

memory limits in R loading a dataset and using the packagetree
...faults in R is to play nice and limit your allocation to half
the available RAM. Make sure you have a lot of disk swap space (at least
1G with 2G of RAM) and you can set your memory limit to 2G for R.
See help(memory.size) and use the memory.limit function
Hugues
P.s. Someone let me use their 16Gig of RAM linux
And I was able to run R-64 bits with "top" showing 6Gigs of RAM
allocated (with suitable --max-mem-size command line parameters at
startup for R).

Memory usage
Could someone from the list help me to understand the memory usage by SMB
process?. I have a samba production server with about 50-70 SMB process.
Initially we had 2gb of RAM and the top command showed almost all memory had
been used. There were delays in the file access and listing directories from
user side.
Yesterday evening we had increased the memory to 4 GB and it showed around
3GB free.

Strange problem with LVM, device-mapper, and software RAID...

This RAID10 array has a second LVM Volume Group (named "RavelData2") on
it, also with two logical volumes (named "data" and "largeswap"), a
large data file system and a 16gig swap area.
We are getting a strange message from device mapper on boot up:

text-mode system and /media
I'm running a headless server, so no GUI, just ssh logins. I don't seem to
have the mechanism that automounts USB drives to a subdirectory of /media,
and from googling around I think that's a feature of a GUI-based system.
What implements it? Right now I manually create a mountpoint in /mnt and
then manually mount by label from /dev/disk/by-label after plugging the
drive in. It
