Limiting bandwidth to around max. 8k per second - possible? UPDATE
...ng string produced an image that was not falling behind too
much for too long - basically a little when it was getting TONS of
movement, and then catching up fast.
"65 58 110 0 1 1 90 8 120 1 1 "
Now, we need to get this working on a 320x240 resolution, too (as sadly
VP3 does not support 160x120. Seems to be a little senseless, though.
Whatever we do, we dont get the bandwidth down enough. Now, we need one
of the "standard resolutions" (160x120 or multiples) for some cameras
here to work.
Any hint?

Video codec
Hi,
I guess this is a good time to start putting together a wish list for a
video codec.
I see that for audio the compression is around 10X for reasonable quality.
I am sure this will start its own thread of conversation.
For video you can do 40X fairly easily and the big task is to go to 80X or
100X with reasonable picture quality, say, a peak luma SNR of more than 30
dB. Uncompressed

Paperclip not executing FFMPEG properly
Im using a customs processor to run ffmpeg on a video to create a
thumbnail.
So far so good. Except when I do:
cmd = "-i #{@file.path} -f flv -s 320x240 ~/Downloads/foobar/q.flv"
success = Paperclip.run(''ffmpeg'', cmd)
Console is reporting:
ffmpeg ''-i /var/folders/uL/uL0bYOOZEZaJH5E+BmDJVE+++TI/-Tmp-/stream,

I think a separate table is needed with stream urls and this specific
metadata, all of which sits under the more general data like stream
name, homepage and description. That easily takes care of both mirrors
and alternate bitrate versions of the same content.
All the extra bits get complica...

With the system I've outlined, there is no reason to cheat. There's
no need to fake listener counts because it's not there. Certainly
people can make this available in the 'description' field, ie, how

a new directory service
So I've been doing some research and thinking here and there about what
a _good_ directory service for icecast would be like. I'd appreciate
some feedback and some discussion on this topic, before I start putting
a lot of effort into developing it.
First off, I think getting rid of # of listeners is a must. It just
creates a self-fulfilling prophecy and encourages cheating. I think the
