New to the list and one quick question
Hi all,
Let me start off with a little back ground. I am running right now RH9
fully updated on a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC with 512megs of Ram, 18G SCSI
HD. I run this at home so this is no critical server, unless you ask my
girls when I have it down, I have been debating on upgrading to Fedora
until I started looking at CentOS. I have download the ISO and burned
them with X-CD-Roast. Here is my question:
I trie...

MusicOnHold with mpg123
Alright, I've come across a really strange issue and I've been banging
my head trying to figure it out.
I have 3 machines. 1 Dell Dimension 4100, Pentium 3. 1 Dell 400SC,
Pentium 4. 1 Dell 1600SC, Xeon. I run mpg123 0.59r on each machine.
Using RH9 with a 2.4.20-8 kernel, each machine plays MoH flawlessly.
As RH9 gets older and older, however, the need to upgrade arose. So I
upgraded each machine to CentOS 4.3, with various 2.6 kernels ranging
from 2.6.22 to 2.6.34 (yes, with the spinlo...

PATA Hard Drive woes
Hi All.
Yesterday I was installing Centos 5.5 to my web server, and
it looks like the main hard drive has gone AWOL.
Fedora 12 put the file system into r/o mode.
The drive is an Hitachi, still under warranty.
There are bad sectors on it, and running the Hitachi DFT
tool confirms this. Also I cannot repair the bad sectors.
Would this be caused by a faulty I/O chip, or is it safe to

ttyS0 doesn''t exist
Hello,
I''m frustrated, and confused. Someone send me a light bulb.
I have a UPS attached to the only serial port on a Dell PowerEdge
1600SC. When I boot the system with the xen kernel, ttyS0 NEVER gets
created.
I though that perhaps the default xen kernel config was the problem, so
I configured a new one, based on the kernel config from the RHEL 4 (U3)
kernel (which is running in dom0). I built the new kernel, installed
it, and amaz...

Audio delays during file playback and zap channel activity
...o anomaly rather than a delay. When there are no active zap
channels, the issue does not exist. The disk controller and the Zap
card do not share an interrupt (The zap card has its own interrupt -
not shared with anything).
We're running a version of CVS HEAD from 04/09/05 on a Dell PE 1600SC
with a U320 SCSI, Raid 1 (LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X
Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI), with a TE410P connected to a PRI.
Has anybody experienced anything similar? Anybody have a clue as to
what's going on? Zttool does show 15 IRQ misses, but that is over
the course of the...

"Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network" error on XP Pro SP2 clients for Samba 3.0.23d PDC
...g or are PDCs with tdbsam rare (or is that
totally unrelated to the problems I'm experiencing).
I've also tried using a Samba PDC config from the HOWTO rather than my
own hand-crafted one (see below for both).
Samba version is 3.0.23d running on 2.6.17-2-686 Debian etch on Dell
Poweredge 1600sc with an Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet
Controller (rev 02).
I have a djbdns dhcp server on the network serving which references the
samba server as a wins server.
Thanks,

Software RAID setup ideas and an apology.
...e in
the early 90's), and I'll try to not go into news.admin mode here in the
future.
Now, the question. I have a few ideas about how to do this, but am not sure
of the ideal way of doing it. It has to be a pretty common thing to do, so
I'll ask it here.
I have a server (Dell PE 1600SC) with two SCSI host adapters: a U320 LSI/MPT
for internal drives only, and an Adaptec 39160 with two internal and two
external U160 channels. I have set up a software RAID config with LVM2 on
top (CentOS 4) with four 36GB 15K RPM Ultra 3 drives. The internal drives
are set up with /dev/sda an...

8 pstn lines+ on Asterisk supported hardware.
Hi all,
I have this project that requires me to use 8 PSTN lines and possible more. I was thinking 2 TDM cards with FXO modules.
The I got to read the "Qs about FXO/FXS cards" thread and that scared me.
Can anybody recommend anything that is known to work ok with no mysterious problems?
I was thinking OpenSwitch12 cards. What do you guys think?
Any help is appreciated.

5.1-R-p2 crashes on SMP with AMI RAID and Intel 1000/Pro
Dear Sirs.
It seems to me a never ending story. We run a box with a TYAN Thunder
2500 Dual SMP mainboard, 2GB ECC Tyan certified memory, AMI Enterprise
1600 RAID adapter and additional Intel 1000/Pro server type (64 bit)
GBit LAN NIC. With FreeBSD 4.8 this was stable, but to achive this
state was really hard! It is a story similar to that what happend when
we changed towards FreeBSD
