One critical question in R
Hi, I have one critical question in using R. I am currently working on some research which involves huge amounts of data(it is about 15GB). I am trying to use R in this research rather than using SAS or STATA. (The company where I am working right now, is trying to switch SAS/STATA to R) As far as I know, the memory limit in R is 4GB; However, I believe that there are ways to handle the large dataset. Most of my works in R would be...

Backup Tape
...eed to be able to keep all the file security and ACL info so if I need to restore any files, no further configuration is required. Would I need a backup solution that accommodates samba? If so, any recommendations on what software to use. I only have 10 users and my current Novell server is only at 15gb so we don't have a heavily used server. Has anyone else made the transition from Netware to Linux? In terms of administration, is their anything else I need to look out for? Thanks Sandy

CentOS 7 and Glassfish 2.1.1
...ast few days I've ran into a problem: Glassfish process got killed twice and I don't have a clue why is getting terminated, I know that sometimes processes get killed if RAM is not enough; however on this server I have 62GB of RAM and 10GB of SWAP and Glassfish is configured to use only 15GB of RAM. I've looked on all the logs on /var/log and there is nothing there, I don't see any message that can't tell me why is the process being terminated. Is there other place or is there something I can do to know why is this happening? uname -a Linux server.edh.mx 3.10.0-229.1...

Break up massive INBOX?
I have inherited a 10+ GB mailbox which dsync converted to maildir very nicely. But 15GB in tens of thousands of messages is too much in one INBOX when used in webmail. I guess it's best to divide the messages into subfolders for date. Is there a server-side way to safely move messages into new subfolders so that Dovecot indexes and UIDs won't break? If I write a shell scri...

Maybe it''s something I''m doing wrong, but I have a 15gb image that I use with disk = [ "tap:aio:/root/images/vista32.img,hda,w" ] It was working fine on Friday, but today it failed to boot with an error message. The same works fine when I replace "tap:aio:" with "file:". It seems like qemu-dm tries to open the file with...

ISCSI help
...hing in CentOS 5.1. My steps so far. Create 10GB volume on SAN # iscsiadm -m session -R # fdisk /dev/mapper/mpath0 # kpartx -a /dev/mapper/mpath0 # mke2fs -j /dev/mapper/mpath0p1 # mount /dev/mapper/mpath0p1 /test-mount <--works fine to here--> Now I want to extend the volume on the SAN to 15GB run fdisk and use resize2fs to extend the filesystem, is this possible without a reboot? Currently, I don't seem to be able to get fdisk to see the new disk size after extending the volume. I know this can be done using LVM if I created 2 volumes rather than extending but I am curious to know i...

ParaGuest cannot see 30GB memory
Hi, I have buit Xen (32 bit) with PAE and can start multiple Paraguests with 4 gig memory, but cannot launch a single VM with more than 4 gb memory. I would like to launch 1 VM with 30GB or so memory. Are there any config paramters like kernel,/inittrd that need to be changed. I have the ramdisk set to the initrd I used to boot xen with PAE. Thanks - padma

not using LVM for Linux VM guests?
...vice is / 2 - entire device is SWAP Doing this has simplified resizing so much, I now let the junior admins and my manager expand drive space as needed. It's also let's us really be spartan on space since expansion is so quick. Instead of increasing systems in 30-50GB chunks, we can do 10-15GB and let our rmonitoring system warn us when space gets tight. ------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================= Attention: The information contained in this message and/or attachments from AgResearch Limited is int...
