Max gfn?
I have a 12GB 64-bit Linux HVM guest (CentOS 5.5). When I look at the e820 map in the guest, I see the following: BIOS-provided physical RAM map: BIOS-e820: 0000000000010000 - 000000000009e000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000000009e000 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000000e0000 - 0000000000100000 (r...

du vs df size difference
Hi all, Curious issue.. looking in to how much disk space is being used on a machine (CentOS 5.3). When I compare the output of du vs df, I am seeing a 12GB difference with du saying 8G used and df saying 20G used. # du -hcx / 8.0G total # df -h / Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/xvda3 22G 20G 637M 97% / I recognize that in most cases du and df are not going to report the same but I am concerned about h...

Problems with 12gb file in samba.
I am trying to send a 12gb file from Windows 2000 Professional pc to a red hat linux 7.1 server running samba version 2.0.7. The file is ending after the first 4GB are sent. I looked in the /var/log/samba log and found the following message: [2002/09/12 06:37:02, 0] smbd/reply.c:reply_write_and_X(2578) reply_write_and_X -...

Replacing Devices in a Storage Pool
Hi, Assume that you have a 2-way mirror of small drives that you want to replace with another 2-way mirror of larger drives. What is the best way to do this? If you use the zpool replace command, one at a time on each of the existing old drives, then you will end up wasting the additional space on the new drives. I have tried to access this space by creating a new pool and adding the unused

You'll need to figure out what's going on with your setup. how many hosts could be down in a 12x(4+2) distributed dispersed volume?
Dear All, I just implemented a (6x(4+2)) DISTRIBUTED DISPERSED gluster (v.3.10) volume based on the following hardware: - 3 gluster servers (each server with 2 CPU 10 cores, 64GB RAM, 12 hard disk SAS 12Gb/s, 10GbE storage network) Now, we need to add 3 new servers with the same hardware configuration respecting the current volume topology. If I'm right, we will obtain a DITRIBUTED DISPERSED gluster volume with 12 subvolumes, each volume will contain (4+2) bricks, that is a [12x(4+2)] volume. M...

Linear models over large datasets
...200 columns of doubles and I am using an 64 bit build of R. I've googled about this extensively and went over the "R Data Import/Export" guide. My primary issue is although my data represented in ascii form is 4Gb in size (therefore much smaller considered in binary), R consumes about 12Gb of virtual memory. What exactly are my options to improve this? I looked into the biglm package but the problem with it is it uses update() function and is therefore not transparent (I am using a sophisticated script which is hard to modify). I really liked the concept behind the LM package here:...

compression=on and zpool attach
I''ve got 12Gb or so of db+web in a zone on a ZFS filesystem on a mirrored zpool. Noticed during some performance testing today that its i/o bound but using hardly any CPU, so I thought turning on compression would be a quick win. I know I''ll have to copy files for existing data to be compressed, so I w...

Is the VNC setting available for non-hvm DomU''s?
I have been scouring this list''s archives and have consumed any and all how-to guides I could find but am still unsure. All discussion in this list on this issue is around hvm/vti DomU''s. Has anyone been able to attach a vnc client to a vanilla (non-hvm) DomU using the VNC console setting? On an FC5 (2.6.16-1.2080_FC5xen0) kernel deployed on vanilla (non-hvm) hardware,

When maxmem is not set, the first screen of the installer appear after less than 30. If I set maxmem to 12288 (12GB, i guess), the installer screen takes more than 3min30sec to splash... I have also tried to decrease maxmem to 8GB then 4GB (while memory=2048)... but that doesn''t help... Well I have to say that the lower maxmem is set, the faster the VM are. But when set the VM are generally slow and...

Memory usage and limit
Hello everyone, I recently made a 64-bit build of R-2.2.1 under Solaris 9 using gcc v.3.4.2. The server has 12GB memory, 6 Sparc CPUs and plenty of swap space. I was the only user at the time of the following experiment. I wanted to benchmark R's capability to read large data files and used a data set consisting of 2MM records with 65 variables in each row. All but 2 of the variables are of the character...

compile 2.4.1 for linux on power cpus
Hello, I've been asked to get R (2.4.1) installed on a IBM p570 server. This is a server with power CPUs and is running SLES 10. It currently has 12GB of RAM so I'd like to make sure I have the 64 bit version of R so as to take advantage of the extra memory. Since it's a power CPU server that means I'll have to compile R from source. I've searched the r_users list but most of the power CPU correspondence concerns either AIX or M...
