A distro around Shorewall
Hi all,
Currently at work we use a commercial product called "Gnatbox", which, I
believe, is a BSD derivative running on a floppy disk. They have a pretty
UI and all, but I''d feel much safer/happier with a GNU/Linux box and
Shorewall doing the same thing.
In fact, I''m doing something very close to this at home using Openwrt and
Shorewall on my WRT54G router, but I

How many RAM Speex need??

I am concerned if the TMS320F28335 as a whole can handle speex:
16 bits, 150MHz, dual MAC, floating point
512kbytes Flash, 68kbytes RAM, with DMA
Digikey $26/100 to $30/1, not available, Mouser same$, available
Or even the TMS320F28235:
almost the same, no floating point, $3 less
Tools $500, starter kit not available
It is a very interesting *all-in-one solution*...
thanks...

scp vs ftp performance on SGI IRIX????????
Hi,
Running OpenSSH 3.5p1 or 3.7.1p2 on two SGI orgin 300 systems of IRIX
6.5.17 with
4 600MHz CPU and gigabits network.
Transfer a 1GB file with ftp took 28 seconds.
Transfer a 1GB file with scp took 148 seconds.
Use "snoop" to capture all network packets between these two systems. Ftp
tansmitted
about 107840 packets, but scp transmitted about 763339 packets.
Is this normal? Why?

J-Ogg is available
...quot;music-on-demand".
- An applet built with Vorbis and icecast support only is less than 30kB!
Drawbacks:
- The applet requires a Java Runtime Environment version 1.3 (or newer).
- Decoding requires a relatively fast CPU. A 128kbps Vorbis stream would
probably need something like a Pentium 150MHz to decode in realtime.

Speex 1.2beta1: Better, smaller, faster and more
Speex 1.2beta1 announcement:
This new release brings many significant improvements. The quality has
been improved, both at the encoder level and the decoder level. These
include enhancer improvements (now on by default), input/output
high-pass filters, as well as fixing minor regressions in previous 1.1.x
releases. A strange and rare instability problem with pure sinusoids has
also been fixed. On

How many RAM Speex need??
Hi evryone )
My name is Vasily.
I am a software developer from Ukrane, and i am going to use Speex on
TMS320F28335 DSP-controller wich has only 68KB of RAM.
And I worry about this.
I can't find memory requirements in speex manual(only some about
optimization).
Can anyone tell me, how many RAM Speex can eat at 8kbs realtime
encoding and decoding with echo canceller and jitter
buffer enabled?

Improving v2 connection exchange.
I just finished net-installing OpenBSD on my Sparc (yay.. <sigh>), and I'm
noticing how extremely slow it is to connect (20 - 30 seconds) as compared
to v1 protocol to the Sparc.. or even v2 from my dual 533mhz to itself.
(The sparc is a ss20 w/ a 150mhz processor, it's works nicely after the
key exchange is finished.)
Is there any reasonable way to improve the connection speed for v2 on
slower hardware?

Speex 1.2beta1: Better, smaller, faster and more
Hi,
I have been testing 1.2beta1 fixed point and non fixed point as well as 1.0.5
compiled agains uclibc and run on 150Mhz pentium MMX chip.
1.2 non fixed is fastest 60 seconds encoded in 32 seconds at quality 4
1.0.5 is second with the same file encoding in 39 seconds at quality 4
1.2 fixed is slowest with 60 seconds encoded in 58 seconds at quality 4
Is this as expected? Or am I doing something wrong? Can uclibc in...
