RHEL 5.2 i386 image - Xen kernel doesn''t recognize the total amount of system memory
Hello, We have installed RHEL 5.2 Server ( i386 image ) on a machine with 64GB of RAM. When booting the default PAE kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5PAE ) that is shipped with RHEL 5.2 installation the OS detects 64GB of RAM. But when booting the Xen kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5xen ) the OS detects only 14GB of the total amount of available RAM. Did anyone encounter this problem before ? Is it a normal behavior for a 32 bit image ? Thanks, Ido _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Apparently, the cache remains persistently occupied. Since I'm currently performing backups, it's not surprising that the cache is large. Apparently it means that asterisk fails every time I'm doing something that fills the cache...

What's the best way to convert a whole set of file systems?
...file systems to (probably) Reiserfs or maybe ext3, but I need to do them one at a time because I only have enough transfer space to accommodate the largest one, or at least that's my belief. That would mean at least two copies per partition converted, and I have six partitions to convert, from ~14Gb to over 85Gb (in one, only - the rest are 30Gb or smaller). 1) Is there a good way to do whole fs conversions, specifically from NTFS to reiserfs or ext3? 2) Do I even need to do this (i.e., do any of the CentOS/Linux kernels support read AND write to NTFS)? 3) Is ther...

possible memory leak in predict.gbm(), package gbm ?
Dear gbm users, When running predict.gbm() on a "large" dataset (150,000 rows, 300 columns, 500 trees), I notice that the memory used by R grows beyond reasonable limits. My 14GB of RAM are often not sufficient. I am interpreting this as a memory leak since there should be no reason to expand memory needs once the data are loaded and passed to predict.gbm() ? Running R version 2.9.2 on Linux, gbm package 1.6-3. Thanks, Markus [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Problem with large number of files and --delete
I have encountered an interesting problem when trying to move over a mail store last night... I tried to rsync our mail store from our old mail server to the new mail store... minimal changes to the data since I had rsynced it not 3 hours before... The mailstore in total is 14GB total. Here is what I am using: /usr/local/bin/rsync --verbose --progress --stats --compress --rsh=/usr/bin/ "slogin -l root -o Compression=yes" --recursive --times --links --perms --owner --group --delet e 204.251.239.243:/usr/home/vpopmail/domains/ala.net/ /nfsmount/maildir/ala.net/...

2GB of Waste? How can it be?
Dr. Tweedie, et al.: I recently formatted a partition using EXT3, and after a "df -h" I get 14GB of space. When I reformatted the partition with ReiserFS, and did a "df -h" I got 16GB of space! Now the partition was setup to be 16GB via fdisk, so 16GB is correct. However, why does EXT3 loose 2GB of space? The journals cannot be that big!?! Very Respectfully, Stuart Blake Tener,...

Join Samba without GC role
It's strange. We have root domain and a lot subdomain. We try to join Samba to one of subdomain. Active Directory DB (NTDS.dit) without GC = 1.2 Gb, with GC=16 Gb. When we try to join Samba we have samba DB limit 4Gb. We see that samba replicate information about all domains in forest: descriptor_sd_propagation_recursive: DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=domain1,DC=oao,DC=company not found under

error writing 4 unbuffered bytes - exiting
...io.c(464 And the rsync fails. I read in the archives and "Current Issues" Section of the web site that this is a known issue and it says that fatal error messages from the remote machine gets lost along the way. This is running on the same.. As you can see, the destination disk has 14Gb free, so we are not running out of disk space, but it really does mainly occur on LARGE file sizes. Testing the drive speeds, I do not see any problem either as /dev/hda2 is the FASTEST drive I have. /dev/sda5: Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 10.48 seconds = 6.11 MB/sec /dev/hda1: T...

POP retrieval, then reading, of mail does not udpate server status.
We are currently using the version of Dovecot (0.99.11) that comes with Redhat Enterpise Linux version 4, running on an IBM x445 server (8 CPU, hyperthreading on, 14GB RAM) using the maildir format. We have had to patch this with a change from 0.99.12 so that it doesn't incorrectly report SASL capability upon connection but otherwise it is the version supplied with the OS (we do this to ensure that we don't deviate from the supplied packages too much)....

Overwriting ext2 Partition with ext3
Hi, Suppose you have an ext2 Partition at 14GB which is 80-90% full. Most files are smaller than 1 MB (there are just 20 or so which are over 100MB where 800MB is the biggest one). Block size etc - everything is default. Now you do this: mke2fs -j /device Important is the "-j" switch. What happens without the "-j" switch...

Testing Samba and NFS/AMD inter-action
...em (6GB, backed-up this time<whew>) bites the dust. Like any good engineer, I took the opportunity to upgrade-revamp some things <grin>. I took the opportunity to implement a uniform file structure, among the Linux-based servers, the LAN went from 10base2 to switched 100baseTX, I added 14GB of disk space, a third server for accounting, cut back to NIS (from shadows), built a new NOC workstation, and re-organizd the gateway-customer space. We also installed two APC Smart-UPS 1400's. All of the filesystems are linked together with NFS/AMD. Samba is used to share portions out to the...

Join Samba without GC role
I created test environment: 1 root domain, 2 subdomain. I created about 250000 user accounts in subdomain 2 (sub2.company.com) ntds.dit 14gb. Joining samba in first subdomain (sub1) was without problem. But in production environment (with a lot of domains and objects) python process was hung with 100% CPU (after 6 hour we killed hung process). Why can this happened? This is samba subdomain support limitation, tdb database limitation,...
