KVM CO 5.6 VM guest crashes running iSCSI
...rboot-zroms-kvm-5.4.4-13.el5.centos libvirt-0.8.2-15.el5 libvirt-devel-0.8.2-15.el5 The problem: I attached an iSCSI LUN (netapp appliance) to a guest and everything work fine with iscsi-initiator-utils-6.2.0.872-6.el5: LUN discovery, attaching to the host etc. After that I'm trying to copy ~ 140Gb of data to that LUN via scp from another server in the network and the VM crashes after ~ 1 hour of copying .. Nothing in the VM / KVM host logs importunately. Who has / had similar issues with iSCSI LUNs being connected to a guest? Thanks, Vladimir

Wrong usage quota size
Hi guys, I've a problem by one of our replicated volumes. When i look on both bricks the size of them are euqal but if i take a look into the gluster quota informations 'gluster volume quota xxx list' i get a wrong usage size. I can't see any errors on my glusterfs or brick logs. Do anyone have a hint ? Cheers Heiko -- System Wizard anynines.com

data recovery
Hi, Need help on data recovery. Suddenly my disk device's geometry has been changed to something that doesnot make any sense. Its a 1.8TB in size and had only one single partition. Now I can see 3 partitions sde1, sde2 and sde2 of sizes 130M, 140GB and 10GB. Is there any way to recover data from these newly created disk devices? Thanks Paras.

backup server..
...x70Gb HDD, running Centos4.4 fully up-to-date. Now my two questions are; (1.) In terms of backup, I'd like to have a cron sending out an nightly incremental backup of user files. I'd also like to have HDA to be copied backed up entirely (maybe weekly) onto HDB (were're not going to use 140GB anyway!) so that is hda crashes, I`d swap both of the hdds and boot from the backup. Now for that second step, I was reading that dd was quite CPU intensive? Would there be other alternatives? Advices on doing backups? (2.) I've got no physical access to the box, and the box has obviously no v...

Disk usage for small files in ext3 in CentOS 5
...explain the behaviour. Have you seen this before? Can you reproduce it on your systems? Do you know how to get the CentOS 4 behaviour? More on the point: I'm migrating some data from CentOS 4 to CentOS 5, it's around 70GB of millions of small files. I would like it to still take 70GB, not 140GB. For now, I'm working around this issue by using "-T small" to mke2fs, I'm not sure if it's going to have the effect I want, and I'm not sure about any other impact (performance?) it might have on my filesystem. Thanks, Filipe

XFS acls in rsync
Hi, I'm actually building a big file server for my company and is testing rsync intensively since two weeks to synchronize a stand-by server every 15 minutes. I've been really impressed by the performance of rsync :-) The filesystem is actually 140GB on XFS under linux running samba with acl support... And you already know the problem :-) Google told me you are planning full acl support (aka cross fs acls support) in version 3, but i can't wait for it, so i want to code a patch to support XFS acls. Assuming i'm a C programmer with s...

Does running redundancy with ZFS use as much disk space as doubling drives?
If I''m gonna use OpenSolaris, I will have to buy new hardware, which I can''t really defend at the moment. But I may be able to defend it in the near future if using redundancy on ZDF uses less disk space as simply getting extra drives and do identical copies, with periodic CRC checks of the source material to check the health. Or will I use as much drive space with redundancy?

kernel BUG at /usr/src/ocfs2-1.2.1/fs/ocfs2/file.c:494!
...39;m new to ocfs2 and drbd. I set up two identical servers (Athlon64, 1GB RAM, GB-Ethernet) with Debian Etch, compiled my own kernel (2.6.16.20), then compiled the drbd-modules and ocfs (modules and tools) from source. The process of getting everything up and running was very easy. I have one big 140GB partition that is synced with drbd (in c-mode) and has an ocfs2 filesystem on it. The servers will be webservers so the data ist the whole document-root (mostly pdfs for download) and CGIs. I rsynced 31GB of data from another server onto this partition last week and did some simple testing and eve...

gaming on multiple OS of the same machine?
Hi, I am new to Xen and I was wondering if the following construction would be feasible with the current Xen. I would like to put 2/3/4 new computers in my house, mainly for gaming. Instead of buying 2/3/4 different computers, I was thinking of building one computer with a 4/6/8-core CPU, 2/3/4 GPUs, 2/3/4 small SSDs, and attach 2/3/4 monitors to it, 2/3/4 keyboards and 2/3/4 mouses, and run VGA
