dom0/domU disagree on cpu_khz
I have a SUSE 9.2 box running 3.0.3-testing-rc3, and dom0 and domU
disagree on the cpu frequency. dom0 has two CPUs and domU one vcpu.
dom0 says:
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU family 1400MHz
stepping : 1
cpu MHz : 1558.703
bogomips : 2800.85
domU says:
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU family 1400MHz
stepping : 1
cpu MHz : 1396.437
bogomips : 2794.50
Any ideas?

smbfs + wine + sourcesafe = slow
While it is amazing that Sourcesafe runs under Wine,
its performance leaves a lot to be desired.
I am using Sourcesafe with Wine (my setup is documented at
http://www.kegel.com/linux/vss-howto.html ).
The Wine I'm using is from CVS as of last week.
My workstation is a dual Pentium Xeon 1400MHz from Dell
running 2.4.10. (That's a Pentium 4 Xeon using RDRAM,
so it's probably about comparable to a Penium 3 1 GHz.)
Sourcesafe on this machine is just barely usable for large
recursive get's of 2000 or so files; it seems to average
about one file per second.

Different average bitrates on different machines
I am using OggEnc v0.8 (libvorbis rc2) (win32 cli)
I have access to two machines
Pentium 3 450mhz, 192mb, Windows 2000 (SP2)
Athlon 1400mhz, 256mb, Windows 2000 (SP2)
When I encode the same wave file on each machine at the same nominal
bitrate (96kbps), I get output files with different average bitrates.
107kbps on the Athlon, as opposed to 84kbps on the Pentium 3.
Anyone experienced this ? Is this to be expected?

Conversations cuts: "didn't get a frame from Channel: SIP/..."

internal call, an outgoing call, or an incoming one through the Zap
channels. The voice quality is OK, and the minimum duration configured
for a call is 5 minutes (max: 90 mins).
The server is an IBM with a Pentium III (1400MHz) processor and 1GB of
RAM. The HD is an IDE (no SCSI related issues). It has has 3 TE110P on
his own IRQ each one (according to /proc/interrupts), and the load of
the server is usually below 14% (i.e. 86% idle most part of the time). 2
of the cards receive a PRI while the other one connects to a Ch...

I am running some fsck's on some of the larger drives (750GB and 2TB) that
are used for backups. There is a verbosity flag (-V); but because of the
size of the drives along with slowness of the processor, the process is
taking a long time.

Very slow performance on reads, Samba 3.0.24
...the case. (I thought that the NIC was the
bottleneck, but with a FTP client I maxed out th 100Mbps NIC).
Also I mention that I'm running on Ubuntu-Server 7.04, with the
"stock" packages that ubuntu provides under a 2.6.20 kernel. The
machine running samba has an AMD Athlon running at 1400Mhz, 256kb
cache and 512MB RAM.

Vorbis as a benchmark
Seeing the discussion on using vorbis as a benchmark has prompted me to post
a few results that I have. Times are as reported by oggenc.
I used track 8 on Stereolab's Dots and Loops album.
It's 334 seconds long.
Tests on windows machines used the windows oggenc binary from www.vorbis.com
Tests on unix machines used oggenc compiled on that machine.

Hi everyone.
I read on a 2011 article - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nouveau_comp_2011&num=19 - that my particular card, GeForce 8400 GS, overheats with nouveau. (So, I never tried using if for long, before, as soon as possible, installing the proprietary drivers...) Slowdown on lots of motion

etherbridge bottleneck
I ran some iperf tests today and it looks like the etherbridge
is the limiting factor on throughput. In the beforetime, I saw great
throughput to the VMs; over 800 Mbps. With the bridge, the numbers
are in the 400s somewhere.
Is this the speed I can expect from the bridge?
Is there some tuning I should try, or another way to get more bandwidth
into the VMs?
This is with xen-2.0, 2.4.27-xen0
