MGE EllipseMAX 1500 shuts down after a few hours
I have taken out the batteries and measured them with a multimeter.
They put out 13V (they are rated 12V 9Ah).
Putting them back again and disconnecting the UPS from the mains it is
kept on, powering all the connected devices.
The shutdowns only occur when the UPS is being monitored. Are you sure
it's a battery problem? Do UPS perform further tests when they are
being polled...

Server not shutting down before power loss
Hi I hope someone can please help.
I have an Ubuntu Server running 14.04.3 LTS and using an APC ES550 UPS
connected via USB.
I've installed Nut and can see it does monitor the UPS correctly and give
the correct stats with battery percentage etc.
But on doing a "real" test and unplugging the UPS from the power supply,
after watching the battery drop slowly suddenly the server just

...ry, - dead easy,
Then much more important: calculate internal resistance of each battery.
Batteries go bad after some years, even on trickle charge.
Measure voltage drop when driving a load such as 1 or a few car
headlamp bulbs in parallel. Then its simply Ohms law V=IR,
If voltage drops from say 13V to 11V & if you use 1 headlamp that
uses maybe 4 amps, then 13-11 / 4 = 2/4 = 0.5 which is on high side,
you dont want higher, better 0.3 or less.
Your UPS for PC's will prob. want a lot more than 4 amps, so low
internal resistance is critical to good UPS performance.
If you decide to us...

What sort of load did you have in parallel with the multimeter? (This is why Wolfy mentioned the light bulb: if the battery has developed excessive internal resistance, it will show proper voltages when tested open-circuit, but will read lower with a load.)

...the string voltage and not the single Cell voltage (Megatec 0.06).
- About battery low and high guesstimation the formula uses these values:
batt.volt.low = 104 * batt.volt.nom / 120 (for a 12V VRLA --> 10.4V batt.volt.low)
batt.volt.high = 130 * batt.volt.nom / 120 (for a 12V VRLA --> 13V batt.volt.high).
In my opinion these values are not correct (a 12V lead acid battery can be charged up to 13.8V while discharged to 9.6V)
Instead I would suggest:
batt.volt.low = 100 * batt.volt.nom / 120 (for a 12V VRLA --> 10V batt.volt.low)
batt.volt.high = 135 * batt.volt.nom / 120 (for...

Eaton 5PX 3rd party batteries
Hello,
nut recently told me that the batteries need replacing in my Eaton 5PX2200RT (ups) and 5PXEBM48RT (external battery pack). According to my notes, it has been just over 4 years since I installed them. Looking at on-line sales, these seem to use batteries in a pre-packaged plastic shell. I don't recall if that's what's in my units or not.
Do you have any experience with

Adding drivers to NUT?
Dear Daniele,
nice to meet you, I'm a collegue of Gabriele.
The problem with "blazer_usb" driver ("blazer_ser" works correctly) is related to the following commands:
- "F" and "I": when the KRAULER subdriver check these UPS answers it uses wrong constants to check the lenght of the received packets, so these commands are considered as "not

What kind of message to NUT? In the log (syslog) there is no other
message registered. In nut.log only this appears:
