Resizing a fat filesystem on a USB partition
Hi All, I feel this is the most simple question but I am currently going around and round in circles and searches keep bringing me up Windows tools!! :-( I have a 512MB USB drive that has a 12MB FAT16 partition on it. How can I resize this 12MB partition to grow and fill the whole 512MB drive? Just in case I am being stupid, here is what I am doing... :-) I would like a quick USB drive that a machine can boot from but will then load and run some custom tools...

[NEO 1:1] Nativedom 1:1 Mapping
...or. x86-64 ====== The 512KB-1MB region is remapped (because of the ROMs) to an address above 16MB. As far as NativeDom can see: 1. The 0-512KB region is marked as USABLE 2. The 512KB-1MB region is marked as RESERVED x86-32 ====== The 0-12MB region is remapped because it contains the ROMs and xen itself. Drawback - If a guest allocates a DMA buffer in this region, there is a chance that the machine would crash. * Setup.c - Added boot parameters & NativeDom memory initialization * Page_alloc.c - The 1:1 memory allocator wa...

I am looking at getting a HD webcam, I am wondering what is the bitrate of them? Can they be used with a 12Mb/s USB ports? tom_a_sparks "It's a nerdy thing I like to do"

maximum memory size allocated by _xmalloc
...#39;'ve allocated certain size of memory chunk for the data structure. ( I varied it from 10kb to 24 MB.) When the size is equal to 24 MB, xen won''t boot anymore. (stuck during the xmalloc, according to my debugging. _xmalloc returns NULL.) There was no problem when the size is below 12MB. Is there any limitation such as max memory size for _xmalloc? I suspected xen heap size, but, it is no longer adjustable. Right? I hope somebody can give me a clue. Thanks.

Samba Gigabit very very slow?
...k 8169 NIC) at home when i copy stuff from the samba server i get around 5-6Mb/sec and if i use ftp to access the same file on the same server i get almost 30Mb/sec does anyone have a clue what causes this problem? When i used my old 3com 905c for the local net i got normal 100Mbit speed (around 10-12Mb/sec) My system: Debian Unstable Kernel 2.6.3 Athlon XP 2200+ 512Mb DDR 2x 120Gb hdd Realtek 8169 Gigabit NIC 3Com 905c 10/100Mbit Best regards Jonas

does backgroundrb server need rails environment?
...as the log worker to ''bloat'' to 35MB each. I am kind of sensitive to memory issues, so I patched the code and essentially moved the require of environment from script/backgroundrb to the meta_worker. Everything seems good and now both backgroundrb server and log worker hang around 12MB. Is there a reason why script/backgroundrb loads the environment? I suppose it makes spawning rail workers faster? Anyways, if anyone is interested, I can post my simple patch. Paul

performance of pv drivers for windows
...x XenSource with the XenServer 5. The Novell and gplpv drivers were more or less at the same speed, for both, network and disk performance. The disk performance was about 10MB/s reading and writing sequentially, and about 1-1.5MB/s for reading and writing randomly. The network speed was about 10-12MB/s, via a GigaBit line. The Xensource drivers made at least about 30MB/s reading and writing sequentially, but for reading and writing randomly, it was also only lousy 1.5MB/s. Via network, over the GigaBit line, with the xensource drivers, the speed was about 78 MB/s. The Windows system was a...

survey weights
Hi all, I've been trying to get a large (12mb) Stata survey database into R. I managed that, but when I attach survey weights, something goes wrong. The error message is: object dchina not found. Here's the script: library(car) library(foreign) library(survey) China <- read.dta("C:/final07c2.dta") attach(China) data(China)...

"Large" data set: performance issue
hi all, I've got to import CSV-datasets (with variable-names in the first line) into data.frames. each is about 12MB (or more!) with 1823 columns and about 500 rows. the first 22 columns are in "character"-mode, the rest is "numeric". I run R 1.4.1 on a Windows 2000 system. First I tried read.table() which works fine for a low number of cases (say, 40). with all cases the function does not r...

starting a domain only when you have enough resources
...n the workload, can crash the system - I get a kernel trace when this happens. But let's consider a simpler case: one guest with 1.5 Gb RAM, ubuntu 14.03. During the installation the system will again crash. The memory statistics (top or proc/meminfo) will show that the FreeMemory goes down to 12Mb when this happens - which kind of makes sense considering the host will require some RAM to run. But the question is: does libvirt offer any way to prevent this from happening? Some way of not allowing the user to start a guest unless you have enough free memory. I know how much ram each guest ha...

Windows HVM VMs - speed needed...
Hi All, I was hoping to run a Windows 2003 server in production on Centos 5.2 however the performance isn't very good. The host is Centos 5.2 64 bit. I did some file transfers and I'm seeing about 12Mb/s on a Windows 2003 VM and about 8Mb/s on a Windows 2003 32 bit VM. Numbers are measured using the builtin Windows 2003 server networking monitor (Press Ctrl Alt Del in Windows and go to the Windows tab). The server is an IBM xServe about a year old and the VMs are running in LVM partitions. S...

HPN Patch for OpenSSH 4.2p1 Available
...hes, configures, compiles, and passes make tests without a problem. I've not done extensive testing for this version of openssh but I don't foresee any problems. I did run a couple tests between two patched 4.2 installs (one in switzerland, the other in pennsylvania, usa) and hit around 12MB/s with the hpn patch and 500KB/s with the standard install. So it still seems to work as expected. Chris Rapier Network Applications Engineer Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
