Why does scp stall on low bandwidth connections?
...pc --- bridge running tc/htb --- rest of network
TC is filtering traffic from "my pc" and classifies it as 120kbit (see my
script below). I then scp a 5MB file from a server in "rest of network" to
"my pc". Everything seems to work fine and copies at a speed of around
12KB/s, which is what I would expect from a 120kbit connection. At some
stage scp stalls and eventually disconnects or I get bored and press
<Ctrl>+C. The stage at which it stalls is different every time. First it was
at 76% of the copy progress, then at 32% of the copy progress.

Ah, I found this one while playing with ices on solaris. The problem
seems to be a truncation error in libshout's timing/timing.c, in
timing_sleep, which results in ices not sleeping at all between
chunks. I hope you're experiencing the same problem, because I posted
a patch a couple...

Much higher disk usage in OCFS2 then in XFS
...e the first time there have been already
over 600 MB in use. Then I started to copy a directory with a overall
size of 1784 MB(measured on an XFS with "du"). After an hour about 4
GB(!) have been used on the OCFS2 volume so I stopped the copy.
The files I copied are mostly smaller then 12kB.
Why is there such a big difference between XFS and OCFS2? Is it
recommended to use OCFS2 for such small files(there are over 2 TB of them)?

you should just be able to increase STACKSIZE in thread/thread.c from

Could be a bad drive, as digimer alludes in his reply.
OTOH, I had a perfectly good drive get kicked out of my RAID-1
array a fewyears ago just because, well, I guess I could say
"it felt like it".
In reality, I had (in my ignoran...

the reason why one drive was kicked out (above [_U] ) will
be in /var/log/messages. If it is also part of md1 then
it should be manually removed from md1 before replacing the
hd.

...y.
I kind of stumbled across this setup by accident when I added an NVMe
SSD to an existing RIAD1 array consisting of 2 HDDs.
# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
md127 : active raid1 sda1[2](W) sdb1[4](W) nvme0n1p1[3]
485495616 blocks super 1.0 [3/3] [UUU]
bitmap: 3/4 pages [12KB], 65536KB chunk
See how we have 3 devices in the above RAID1 array, 2 x HDDs, marked
with a (W) indicating they are in --write-mostly mode, and one SSD
(MVMe) device. I just went for 3 devices in the array as it started life
as a 2 x HDD array and I added the third SSD device, but you can mix a...
