default cluster.stripe-block-size for striped volumes on 3.0.x vs 3.3 beta (128kb), performance change if i reduce to a smaller block size?
...cal disk it seems if I let it keep going). However, if I do a du
-sh at the filesystem / brick level on each of the 5 directories on
the 5 servers that store the striped data, it shows that each one is
storing 4.1TB. So basically, 4.3TB of data from a 4K block size FS
took up 20.5TB of storage on a 128KB block size striped gluster
volume. What is the correlation between the " option block-size"
setting on client configs in cluster/stripe blocks in 3.0.x vs the
cluster.stripe-block-size parameter in 3.3? If these settings are
talking about what I think they mean, then basically a file that...

ZFS space map causing slow performance
...l show 0 writes to disk, while it does hundreds or thousands of small (~3KB) reads each second, presumably reading space map data from disk to find places to put the new blocks. The result is that it can take several minutes for an spa_sync() to complete, even if I''m only writing a single 128KB block.
Using DTrace, I can see that space_map_alloc() frequently returns -1 for 128KB blocks. From my understanding of the ZFS code, that means that one or more metaslabs has no 128KB blocks available. Because of that, it seems to be spending a lot of time going through different space maps whic...

oom-killer.
Hi all,
Just watching for my first time the 'oom-killer' call in a CentOS 4.2
workstation. System was running normally but with high load of nice process,
iow, rosetta and seti, others appart, nautilus, etc... i realized that after a
night of standby running normally, the next moorning after few manual operations
from X-session in local console, it started a massive swapping, this time

Is write(2) made durable atomically?
Will a write(2) to a ZFS file be made durable atomically?
Under the hood in ZFS, writes are committed using either shadow paging or
logging, as I understand it. So I believe that I mean to ask whether a
write(2), pushed to ZPL, and pushed on down the stack, can be split into
multiple transactions? Or, instead, is it guaranteed to be committed in a
single transaction, and so committed atomically?

What tools do I need to manage the following services:
http, ssh (scp), ftp, streaming audio, smtp, instant messenger.
Q1. What is the best kernel to use at the moment and what other tools need

Forensics related ZFS questions
1. Does variable FSB block sizing extend to files larger than record
size, concerning the last FSB allocated?
In other words, for files larger than 128KB, that utilize more than one
full recordsize FSB, will the LAST FSB allocated be ''right-sized'' to fit
the remaining data, or will ZFS allocate a full recordsize FSB for the
last ''chunk'' of the file? (This is a file slack issue re: how much will
exist.)
2. Can a...

what quality ?
hi,
what quality is recommended to encode to for cd quality?
i mean, for mp3, i used to encode to 128kb/s ( maybe it's a bit low..
)..
so what quality ( or bitrate ) do you recommend?
thanks,
gabor
p.s: i'm sure this queston was asked here at least 1000x but it's hard
to search for 'bitrate' here :-)
