Memory reservation for 32bit guests on high RAM systems
.../html/xen-devel/2009-11/msg01277.html
32 bit domains eventually fail to boot with the following Xen complaint:
xm create: Error: (4, ''Out of memory'', "panic: xc_dom_boot.c:159: xc_dom_boot_mem_init: can''t allocate low memory for domain")
Booting with dom0_mem=128G, with enable-dom0-ballooning=yes and total_available_memory=128 set in xend''s configuration works as expected. 128GB of RAM is avalable 32bit guests and 128GB for 64 bit guests. I''m able to account for the RAM in the box by totaling 32bit domains + 64bit domains + free_memory as...

CPU Limit in Centos
A few years ago, I vaguely recall some issue with RHEL needing a special license or something like that, if you had more than a certain amount of CPU's or a certain amount of RAM.
Does Centos work fine for 2 CPU's, 16 cores, 32 threads, and 256 G of ram?
Centos6 specifically.

Guests using more ram than specified
...I noticed that one of my HVs started swapping aggressively and
noticed that the two guests running on it use quite a bit more ram than
I assigned to them. They respectively were assigned 124G and 60G with
the idea that the 192G system then has 8G for other purposes. In top I
see the VMs using about 128G and 64G which means there is nothing left
for the system. This is on a CentOS 7 system.
Any ideas what causes this or how I can calculate the actual maximum
amount of RAM I can assign to the guests on a HV without overcommitting RAM?

I tried to increase the stack size by changing:
extern uintptr_t R_CStackLimit
but my systems manager said that R by default uses all the memory
available to it from the operating system. Our machine has 128G. I
also use options(expressions = 100000) but I still get the above
errors. Can anyone help? Im I trying to change the wrong thing or is
there anything else I can do?
Many thanks,

Question on server speed
Hi all,
I have a customer server with 32 cores, 128G ram i7960X. So nice box...
Why is it that "all" I am really doing at the moment is copying things to
an external SSD disk USB3 connected and the machine "freezes"... Why is
that?
clearly plenty of CPU RAM everything...
I can see "blocking" to write data to the extern...

[PATCH v36 0/5] Virtio-balloon: support free page reporting
...own in the v37 cover

> Could you have a look at https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/8/27/29 . Thanks.
OK, that's much better.
The ~50% reducton with a 8G VM and a real workload is great,
and it does what you expect when you put a lot more RAM in and see the
84% reduction on a guest with 128G RAM - 54s vs ~9s is a big win!
(The migrate_set_speed is a bit high, since that's in bytes/s - but it's
not important).
That looks good,
Thanks!

zvol wrapped in a vmdk by Virtual Box and double writes?
....)
Only starting to get into this one, so apologies if I''m light on detail,
but...
I have a shiny SSD I''m using to help make some VirtualBox stuff I''m
doing go fast.
I have a 240GB Intel 520 series jobbie. Nice.
I chopped into a few slices - p0 (partition table), p1 128GB, p2 60gb.
As part of my work, I have used it both as a RAW device (cxtxdxp1) and
wrapped partition 1 with a virtualbox created VMDK linkage, and it works
like a champ. :) Very happy with that.
I then tried creating a new zpool using partition 2 of the disk (zpool
create c2d0p2) and then carve...

4.2.10-Debian. Our file servers have been working fine until recently

Access to other shares on other machines is fine, and users is 128G

CPU/memory/IO/network strain, and accessing the file share via SCP/shell
is fine. Most clients are Windows 7, and are using offline files.
Eventually we gave up debugging, rsynced the share, pointed the DNS

qemu crash, qemu_thread_create: Resource temporarily unavailable
Hi
My qemu is 2.9.0, libvirt is 3.4.0.
I start many guest in short time(128G pyhsical memory ,1G per guest, 90 guest), and then run memtest on guest system.memtest just occupy guest memory,so when run memtest, host will allocate memory for guest. I run memtest on all my guest, and some guest will encounter crash. qemu log has qemu_thread_create: Resource temporarily unavail...

According to these, centos 6 and rhel 6 are limited to 16G of ram. But I currently have a rhel6 system with 128G, so ... Don't know what to think about that...
