OT: carrying a router, firewall, switch, ser ver, some phones with me on flight to Europe
Well here's a suggestion - a little crazy - but works... Most equipment is taking the 120vac and converting it into DC voltage. So why not just feed it DC voltage directly??? We had a situation where our field techs needed to test dsl circuits and voip ata from the demarcation point outside a house or business. A UPS might have worked - but the down conversion of 12v dc battery in ups up t...

# IP601's with POE per Catalyst 3560G-48PS
Hello people, I am having difficulties figuring out the POE power draw in watts from a Polycom IP601. I want to know how many IP601's can be powered from the Cisco Catalyst 3560G-48PS. The IP601 wallwart has: Input 120VAC 60hz 19W, Output 24VDC 500mA. I assume the output is appropriate value to figure out how many phones can be powered. The Cisco 3560 datasheet says "the 48-port PoE configurations can deliver the necessary power to support 24 ports at 15.4W, 48 ports at 7.7W, or any combination in between&quo...

OT: carrying a router, firewall, switch, server, some phones with me on flight to Europe
Dear Fellow *-ers, First, you guys are fantastic. Keep fighting the good fight. Second, it sounds like comments in the code are coming, which sounds welcome by all, even those of us who couldn't code their way out of a papersack, but who need to read the source. Last, I might be traveling to Europe (from US) & want to tow along hardware & haven't done this before & was

Incorrect values returned from usbhid-ups
...at one! I would hate to have servers running at 137V if they are supposed to be running on 120V. The output.voltage value of 137 reported is suspiciously near the input.transfer.high value. It has often been EQUAL to that. The good news is that the ACTUAL output volts as measured by a voltmeter is 120VAC. In addition... The device.serial and ups.serial are both all zeroes? battery.mfr.date is ?CPS? rather than a date string? battery.voltage should indeed be higher than the nominal of 24.0 if they are being charged? It appears that incorrect data structure elements as returned by the UPS are being...

Question about Polycom SoundPoint 500
Hi Folks; I just bought a Polycom SoundPoint 500 off of ebay after having spent way too much time trying to get updated sip images for our cisco phones. The phone I bought didn't have an AC power adapter; Could someone please tell me the volts & amps that the dc plug that comes with the phone puts out? Thanks! Mike

How do I provide redundancy and reliability w/ Asterisk?
I'm trying to set up an Asterisk system for a small office, and one thing I haven't figured out yet is how to best provide reliability. One way to go seems to be a T1 for all my incoming phone lines. What if that T1 goes down? Can I use mutiple POTS lines in conjuction with a T1, all connecting to my Asterisk server? What if my Asterisk server fails? Should I use two Asterisk servers,
