match
Hi, I would like to check which rows of 'types.prev' matrix pop up in
'types', following R in-built procedure. I tried 'match' function but it
works in case of the one dimensional vectors.
Will appreciate any suggestions.

gc() shrinks with multiple iterations
Is it expected behavior for gc() to return shrinking values as it gets
called multiple times? Here's what I've got:

draw stripes in a circle in R
dear R users,
I would like to fill a circle with yellow stripes instead of a uniform
yellow color. To draw the circle I used the following command after
having loaded the (very nice !) plotrix library :

Forcing coefficients in lm object
Dear all,
I would like to use predict.lm() with an existing lm object but with new arbitrary coefficients. I modify 'fit$coef' (see example below) "by hand" but the actual model in 'fit' used for prediction does not seem to be altered (although fit$coef is!).
Can anyone please help me do this properly?
Thanks in advance,

histograms resulting from call to soil.texture
Hello,
Using the dataset below I produce a soil.texture plot (R code for this
included at the end). One will notice I have plotted the points based on
whether or not they are in a region called 'upstream' or 'downstream'. I'm
curious if there is a way to somehow extract counts of the number of points
(red points and blue points) falling within each classification (e.g. silty

aggrete data from combination
Dear R users,
A have a dataframe (matrix) with two collumns (plot, and diameter (d)). I
want all diameters values for different combination of plots.
For example I want all d values for all posible combination, 100C2 (all d
values for plot 1 with all d values in the plot 2.......with all d values
from plot 1 with all d values from plot 100, ...... with all d values from
plot 99 with all d values

draw stripes in a circle in R
I don't see a question. If your question is whether R supports pattern fills, AFAIK it does not. If that is not your question, ask one.

Suggestion for memory optimization and as.double() with friends
Hi,
when doing as.double() on an object that is already a double, the
object seems to be copied internally, doubling the memory requirement.
See example below. Same for as.character() etc. Is this intended?
Example:
% R --vanilla

> gc()
used (Mb) gc trigger (Mb) max used (Mb)

Three-dimensional (3D) movement using 'R'
Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding the construction of 3D graphs in 'R', BUT
these graphs also need to illustrate movement (with time) of the
prostate gland (using radiological techniques). I am not sure how to do
this in 'R' although I'm sure there is some way of doing it.
Below, I have copied and pasted some of the data with which I'm working
on. The data

getting ActiveRecord with Sybase ASE 12.5 going in Windows
Anyone have any success getting the edge version of Active Record going
with Sybase ASE 12.5 in a windows environment?
I guess my main problem is that I''m not sure how to build (and properly
configure for) the sybct library.
Thanks!

array question
Hello All:
If I do have:
x = (2, 4, 5, 5, 6, 4, 5, 2, 1)
y = (9, 11.5, 12.5, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22)
I wanted to find a simple function in R which calculates the averages of X
and Y for every 4 unit increase of Y. The results should look like:
x = (4, 6, 3) #where (2+ 4+ 5+ 5)/ 4 = 4 and ...
y = (12, 14, 20.5) #where (9+11.5+12.5+13)/ 4 = 12 and ...
Thanks,
Mohsen
