down to more like 4 meg, but it grew over time to be 20+. So yesterday
morning I upgraded to 1.4.4 in case this is something that had been
addressed. Again I started with a RES of like 4meg or so, but this
afternoon I'm up to 11megs:

Is this a real issue or do I have something else going on?

reshaping the data
...ing the use of acast/dcast
functions in reshape2 package.
Specifically, I'm working with a data frame, that has information about
SAMPLE, GENE, and TYPE of MUTATION (as shown below):
Sample Gene Type
22M AEBP1 SNV
17M AEBP1 SNV
22M ATR INDEL
22M ATR SNV
11M BTK SNV
11M BTK INDEL
I would like to transform this DATAFRAME into a MATRIX that has GENE on
ROWS, SAMPLE on COLUMNS, and the elements of the matrix are SNV or INDEL
(ie the types of mutations).
The R code starts with :
y <- data.frame(Sample = x$Sample, Gene = x$Gene, Typ...

Alternatives to merge for large data sets?
...ounds,y=prof,by.x="user",by.y="userid",all=TRUE,sort=FALSE)
which gives me an error of
Error: cannot allocate vector of size 2962 Kb
I am reasonably sure that this is correct syntax.
The trouble is that pubbounds and prof are large; they are data frames which
take up 70M and 11M respectively when saved as .Rdata files.
I understand from various archive searches that "merge can't handle that,"
because merge takes n^2 memory, which I do not have.
My question is whether there is an alternative to merge which would carry
out the process in a slower, iterative m...

MySQL error 28, can't write temp files - how to debug?
...0, 1 ,
According to google search, errorcode 28 means the HDD is full. But it isn't:

What else could cause this kind of problem?
