Performance issues/difference of two servers running same task (one is quicker)
...e NameProducts formerly Westmere EP <https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/codename/54534/westmere-ep.html> Code NameProducts formerly Sandy Bridge <https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/codename/29900/sandy-bridge.html> Westmere systems used DDR at 800/1066MHz. Sandy Bridge systems used DDR at 1066/1333MHz. Not a huge difference, but likely another contributing factor of performance. I would also look at power settings in the BIOS and c-state settings in the BIOS and OS as disabling c-states (often enabled by default to meet green/energy star compliance...

Performance issues/difference of two servers running same task (one is quicker)
Hi I need some advice what to do next, even if someone tells me to check out (an)other mailing list(s), tuning site or point me in a better direction how to solve my annoying problem: one server is much faster for certain tasks although on "shitty" hardware. I have tried many things to solve my issue - changed buffer/pool/cache/etc mysqld - changed server settings apache/php -

HVM Windows: disk image vs. zvol - which is better?
Hi everyone! I''m planning to migrate a little firm''s Windows server to a HVM machine. The test setup woks fine (it''s basically an MSSQL server tied pack of programs for an accountancy office), all programs can reach the mssql from the outside on the hvm windows. If fact it turned out to be so good, that I''m even planning to simply copy the win image(s) to the

Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello, I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller, network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important factor. After reading several

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -
