Actually, build 10143 introduced another bug, that was the reason for

Listen on multiple ports possible using same protocol?
Is it possible to have multiple Listen directives in a dovecot configuration file for the same protocol? I am running dovecot-1.2.11 and I want to be able to use the "standard port" as well as a test port:
protocol imap {
listen = *:143
listen = *:10143
ssl_listen = *:993
ssl_listen = *:10993
for example. Or is this more preferably done by pointing dovecot at different configuration files?

listen parm questions
Q1: My imap server has 4 interfaces, but only one is used for imap
traffic. Can I do this:
listen = 10.20.30.40:10143
(when imap.mycollege.edu is 10.20.30.40)
Or is there even any benefit to doing this?
Q2: Can I specify more than one port....during test eval, I've had the
IT dept using port 1043 for listen....which I will, of course, change to
143 when DC goes production. So my department isn't cut of...

Changing listen ports
Hi,
I want to change ports that Dovecot uses to listen for connections. I
have listen = [::] in global section and listen = 0.0.0.0:10143 and
listen = 0.0.0.0:10110 in protocol imap and protocol pop3 sections.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to work for SSL ports of the two
protocols and I get following error when I try to start the service:
Fatal: listen(993) failed: Address already in use
This is because I still have IMA...

Can't drop root group privileges
...all,
I need your insight. I've been testing Dovecot on an AIX 5.2
system. Compiled and running fine. We have some users on an
AIX 5.1 system, so I'm working on installing it there, so we
can do further testing.
I'm using Dovecot 1.0 RC15 with OpenSSL 9.0.7e, configured to use
port 10143 (imap) and 10993 (imaps). The error I'm seeing in the log is:

(where empty.db is completely empty; this is just used since there's no
other way to handle the port mapping, as described elsewhere on the
list).
A static proxy setup does work, with the normal imap / pop3 listeners.

So I tried the following:

Director and backend on the same server
I have setup director and a backend dovecot service on the same machine
using different ports. The backend service is listening on the default 24,
110 and 143 for lmtp, pop3 and imap respectively. Director is listening on
10024, 10110 and 10143 for the same respective services.
I can get this setup to work if I have one backend server on a different IP
listening on 10024, it seems director tries to use the same port it is
listening on when making backend connections.
If I point it to the local backend server, it tries to connect to itse...

Debugging with strace

multiple IMAP clients so it appears to be server-side.
I wanted to start up a test instance of dovecot alongside the production
one and test there. So I copied dovecot.conf, put imap on port 10143,
and started up the test server like this:
# strace -tt dovecot -F -c /etc/dovecottest.conf
(I could not find the docs for -F but without it dovecot would quickly
detatch into a daemon and I could no longer strace it... so is -F for
putting dovecot in the foreground like I think? :-)
