Problem with multiple N/W cards
Hi, I am trying to set up a linux box with 5 N/W cards of which one is 10/100/1000T and the others are 10/100T. I connected all the cards and turned on the machine. I wanted to force eth0 to be the 1000T cards but the cards get allotted eth0 to eth4 randomly. Is there some way wherein I can force my 1000T card to be eth0. Also I want to turn off auto negotation & flow control on the 1000T card. How ca...

Linux and Solaris performance
We have an interesting quandry here. When I'm rsync'ing my directory tree (100 directories each containing 1000 files) I see some strange results: All of these machines are on their own network segment (100t) in our QA lab Solaris->Solaris - time taken: 11m32s Solaris->RH Linux 7.2 - time taken: 206s RH Linux->Rn Linux - time taken 1m59s In each instance I have rsync running as a server on the target machine (Linux in each case). I just can't explain why the performance is just so AMAZI...

Slow at loading large folder tree
The thing is, on the same machine, same net same moment, when I load the same folder from windows XP (through parallels) it takes like 10sec while samba 10min!!! MTU is 1500, set to match 100T devices like router and NAS on the LAN. Even on crossover cable it freaks out the same way. Btw my NAS is a Lacie Ethernet drive with linux based firmware and samba. Funny enough I load folders (ie itunes with 600 subfolders) from shares on a win2k3 server quite fast. I wonder if it has to do...

What NAS device(s) do you use? And why?
...ut they do what it says on the box. My only real gripe with them is the lack of decent scalability. TheCus devices seems to be rather powerful as well, and you can stack upto 5 units together. But that''s where the line stops. I''m now looking for something that could scale beyond 100TB on one device (not necessarily one unit though) and find it frustrating that most NAS''s come in 1U or 2U at most. Maybe I''m just not shopping around enough, or maybe I prefer to well known brands, I don''t know. So, what do you use? How well does it work for you? And,...
