hosts fail to negotiate 1000Mbps speed
...t 2 runs CentOS 4. Host 1 runs CentOS 3 (with a stock e1000 driver). After I setup networking, ethtool reported for both hosts that the link runs at 100Mbps even though it says in both cases that the capability for 1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full modes and exists and is being advertised. If I force 1000Mbps speed with "ethtool -s eth1 speed 1000", I get: # ethtool eth1 Settings for eth1: Supported ports: [ TP ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Half 1000ba...

Virtualization supporting 1000Mbps nics?
I've got xen-3.0.3-105.el5_5.5 running on Centos 5.5 and all is running smooth but I notice that any VMs running under it only have access to Realtek RTL8139C at 100 Mbps nics. We have 4 x 1G nics configured in a port channel so I'd really like to be able to give my VMs 1000Mbps nics. Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do it? If not, does KVM support faster nics because at this point it would be fairly simple to change. Thanx, Russell Smithies ======================================================================= Attention: The information contained in thi...

About ping latency in SR-IOV
Hi, Greg, Eddie, I found that in SR-IOV + HVM environment, ping latency depends on ping interval. The NIC is Intel 82576 (1000Mbps), server uses xen-4.0.1, domain-0 is kernel-2.6.32 and HVM is kernel-2.6.31. The server and client are connected through a 1000Mbps switch. The data is as following: # ping -i 1 192.168.0.21 PING 192.168.0.21 (192.168.0.21) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 192.168.0.21: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time...

...tected mode). A quick test just now under current KVM (running on a five-year-old Core i5) shows a download speed of around 1600Mbps sustained for 2.5GB of data downloaded from the VM host to the guest: http://ipxe.org/_media/screenshots/ipxe_speed.png All of my GigE test hardware sustains 1000Mbps HTTP downloads under iPXE. My 10GigE test hardware typically sustains somewhere in the region of 2000-3000Mbps (CPU-limited, on a very old Core2Duo CPU). Any new iPXE driver developed commercially will be tested and expected to reach 1000Mbps or have good reasons for not doing so. You can c...

network speed of network interfaces
Hello, I have detected a problem with my network interfaces in my xen servers. The problem I have is that snmp is reporting interfaces as 10Mbps, although they are connected at 1000Mbps. Nevertheless, the nic is working at 1000Mbps, because it reports traffic at more than 10Mbps. This is not a critical bug, but it is annoying, because we have scripts to monitor interfaces and create usage statistics that are not working because of this. Does anybody of you know how to solve it?...

Polycom IP 500 - Quality Issues
...all quality issues with internal calls until recently. Upon inspection of the network, there isn't a virus or anything bogging down traffic. Additionally, the network is switched 100Mbps with a Gig port to our Asterisk Server. The Gig Ethernet card in the server is connected to the switch at 1000mbps. Any one know what other areas I can pursue? Thanks, - Brent

changing bandwidth in XCP.
Hello, I am using XCp pool with 5 dom0 hosts. All of it has 2 NICs with 1000mbps bw. While creating VM I can''t change bw of NIC. And by default all of VM has 100Mb NICs. How can I change this? I just want to allow my VM have NIC with 1000Mbps bw. -- Best regards, Den _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xen.org http...

Extensions for long fat networks?
Before I get too far in my attempts... Has anyone already implemented support in scp for larger buffers/windows that would take advantage of wscaled TCP windows? Paul Hyder NOAA Forecast Systems Lab Boulder, CO FYI: Linux 2.4.20, 30-80ms RTT, data rates 100-1000Mbps, and a need to fill TCP windows of 2-8MBytes. (Existing limits appear to be about 256KB.)

Kernel-upgrade breaks forcedeth-driver (CentOS 4)
...without acpi=off), but after upgrading to kernel-smp-2.6.9-67.0.4.EL, networking does not start. After trying dhcp, ifconfig reports 17 dropped TX packets (all other counters are empty). Ethtool reports the same settings for working and non-working kernel, and both report the link arbitrated to 1000Mbps. Setting a manual address does not do anything useful either. When booting with 55.0.9, networking works again. This has also been confirmed on another system - 2.6.9-55.0.12.EL works, and 2.6.9-67.EL fails (but this system is not available for troubleshooting right now). Also, the above syst...

Managed Switches QoS to deal with network bottleneck
Good Day Everybody, I am in the process of planning a phone system for a small business (15 extensions - 4 PSTN lines [to be connected by ATAs]). The plan is to install an IP Phone everywhere there is an existing computer workstation - using the same LAN for phones and computers. The layout involves workstations connected to two switches (the unmanaged 'dumb' type) and the switches

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences
Has anyone installed Linux (CentOS or other) on a Tyan K8SE (S2892) motherboard? I'd really like to hear your experiences -- with this board or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general. I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't found any reviews or postings regarding this

Confusion on lpxelinux vs. gpxelinux vs. ipxe vs gpxe.
Hi All, I've been trying to understand how to use pxechn.c32 to chain a local pxelinux menu item to a remote server which has it's own pxelinux hierarchy served via TFTP and HTTP. We have no control over DHCP next-server and filename fields so I wanted to exploit the "prefix" -p option that pxechn.c32 accepts. I spent a long time hitting my head against a brick wall until I

...ork Boot Program but with a possibly problematic > and slow HTTP implementation. > 2. ipxe - an active fork of gpxe but still with the possibly problematic > and slow HTTP implementation (?) iPXE's HTTP implementation is definitely not slow. On a Gigabit LAN, you should get the full 1000Mbps speed for HTTP downloads: a 200MB test file should transfer in under two seconds. For most practical OS boots, you won't even have time to read the text that iPXE displays on-screen. Also, not a fork: http://git.ipxe.org/ipxe.git/commitdiff/8406115 Michael
