bug, smb 2.2.1a, redhat 7.2
...ip According to what i could find in the docs it should now only use the ip of interfaces. But it will not let you connect. If you connect with windows it will write something in the log log.smbd like: smbd/oplock.c:init_oplocks(1205) open_oplock_ipc: Failed to get local UDP socket for address 100007f. Error was Cannot assign requested address Looking at the code it seems it is allways trying to open a socket on 127.0.0.1 open_socket_in(SOCK_DGRAM, 0, 0, htonl(INADDR_LOOPBACK),False) But surely, if you specify "bind interfaces only" to yes and interfaces does not have 127.0.0.1 it s...

Samba Won't Work

When I try to connect from my Windows PC, I get the following errors in the file log.192.168.1.100: [2004/11/16 02:05:47, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(708) [2004/11/16 02:05:47, 0] smbd/oplock.c:init_oplocks(1308) open_oplock_ipc: Failed to get local UDP socket for address 100007f. Error was Cannot assign requested address Also, when I do a smbpasswd -a jesse, I get the error, "Segmentation fault", and it doesn't add the user. This may be the cause of all my problem. Any ideas what this means, or how I fix it? Remember, I'm a newbie, so I'll need mor...

Additional info on loopback, UDP, session request failed
Dear representative, I've been trying to track down an error in the samba log file: "open_oplock_ipc: Failed to get local UDP socket for address 100007f. Error was Can't assign requested address." Finally, I found a "sort-of" similar message in about 10 different documents from the samba maillists. The reason it was difficult to find is that the message was a session request failed (code 0) and all the ones on the list had diffe...

update on browsing problems
...ster browser for workgroup IV&V on subnet 192.168.0.2 ***** Why is the subnet address the same as rama's IP address? Is this normal? The smb log shows a lot of this: Can't open /dev/null Get_Hostbyname: Unknown host. rama open_oplock_ipc: Failed to get local UDP socket for address 100007f. Error was Invalid argument What the heck does this mean? As soon as I start samba, the Network Neighborhood hoses up and eventually comes back with "Unable to browse network. Network busy." If I kill samba, then Network Neighborhood comes back normal almost immediately. Can someb...

Session request failed
Hi all, I'm trying to access a NT machine through the Internet. First I used an win95 as a client, but since I couldn't get it to work, I used a Linux machine (kernel 2.0.29) with Samba 1.9.18p7 to get some feedback. I did the following: linux01/usr/local/samba/bin> ./smbclient -L ntserver -I a.b.c.d Added interface ip=<myip> bcast=<broadcast> nmask=<netmask>

Samba Problems
I have a couple of problems with Samba that I would appreciate help with: 1. Since installing version 1.9.17p1, error messages such as "ERROR: set_share_mode: failed to ftruncate share mode file /var/smb/locks/share.9175085.1500224 to size 42 (Permission denied)" are appearing in log.smb. 2. When a directory on a UNIX machine contains a file named *, this file appears with the name ~16
