yum --allow-downgrade and versionlocking not working
with installed version 1.3.7 from rpmforge
yum --allow-downgrade update rrdtool-1.2.30-1.el5.rf
results in "no packages to update"
yum --allow-downgrade install rrdtool-1.2.30-1.el5.rf

So, how am I supposed to use --allow-downgrade then?
I had to rpm -e --nodeps the newer packages to be able to install the

Prevent Agent Login from a second extension
Hi friends,
Is there any way to prevent an Agent from logging in from a second extension
if he is already logged on from an extension.
Right now, the scenario is if he login from a second extension, asterisk
will automatically log him off from first extension. What I need is that
asterisk should tell him that he is already logged on from an extension and
should prevent him from logging in

Trunk with Polocom Video Conferencing Unit
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem we have at one of
our sites.
We have setup a Asterisk Trunk to a Avaya PBX, ie ...
Avaya <-> Asterisk (1.2.30) <-> External ISDN Network
BUT They also have a Polycom VSX 7000 that with some sort of BRI
converters that plugs into the Avaya.
The Trunk is working well except for Video Conference Calls. The

Grandstream Video Phones & Asterisk..
Well, the recent talk about video phones and a project I've had lurking
which has come to the top of the pile recently made me go out and buy a
pair of Grandstream video phones.
And stack-me-sideways they "just work".
Amazing little boxes too (actually not that little with a 5.6" screen!)
They even have a web browser built-in with lots of "stuff" in the config

call pickup and ring groups
I'm having trouble with call pickups.
Suppose ring group is 100 and has extensions 101 and 102.
Someone calls 100, 101 rings and 102 wants to pick the call up. If 102 dials **100, call pickup works. If 102 dials **101, call pickup fails.
In my dialplan I have:
exten => **101,1,NoOp(pickup extension)
exten => **101,n,Pickup(101)
exten => **101,n,NoOp(pickup group)

early dial (or overlap dial) and Asterisk 1.2 vs. 1.4
Hi,
I am testing some IP phones (eg. GXP2000) and noticed that the "early dial" feature works fine with Asterisk 1.4 but not with 1.2.
"early dial" is when digits are sent immediately, one by one, and Asterisk replies with a "484 Address Incomplete" and waits for the next digit until a match is found. This is a very useful feature where no dial patterns have to be

iax2 bindaddress: how to reload so iax2 can bind to an alias IP
I'm trying to figure out how to reload iax2 (without breaking existing calls) so it can listen on a new IP address (like "ip addr add local ..."). This alias IP is added/removed by a custom process (script) for clustering purposes.
The iax.conf file contains "bindaddr=0.0.0.0".
I tried a "iax2 reload" (executed without errors or warnings) but I'm still not

OpenSSH port question
Good day!
A little time ago I have ported the "original" ssh 1.2.30 to OS/2.
Unfortunately, I was mislead by the gnu-COPYING-GPL file that is present in the
ssh root dir, thus was under impression that ssh is GPL as well. I was shaken
when I have discovered my mistake :-) This basically made it unusable for many
users which want to use ssh in commercial environments.
Thus I decided

binding to privileged ports
Apologies if this is a FAQ; I couldn't find an answer on openssh.com or
the mailing list archive....
Commercial SSH (I looked at 1.2.30) allocates privileged ports by counting
/downwards/ from 1023, so that it will obtain a socket with (roughly
speaking) the highest available privileged port number. This also appears
to be the behaviour of rsh et al:

OpenSSH 2.5.2p2 and askass (fwd)
My c skills are remarkably rusty, but...
I've been from one end of the source to the other and it doesn't seem that
OpenSSH 2.5.2p2 will *EVER* use ssh-askpass (or any variation thereof).
Is there some flag to flip when trying to compile it? I've looked at the
SRPM that RedHat distributes, and at the latest CVS source from
openssh.com. Neither appears to have any mechanism for

port-forwarding problem!?
Using OpenSSH_2.9p2 on Linux and Sparc Solaris.
Trying to connect from Linux to Solaris, with remote port-forwarding
i.e. On Linux, ssh -R 3000:Linux:23 Solaris
The connection is established okay, but the port-forwarding does not
work; on Solaris, the connection to localhost port 3000 is accepted, but it
appears as if no data makes it back to port 23 on Linux. If an older 1.2.30
sshd is used

IAX peer cannot register in Asterisk 1.2.31
I just upgraded a very old Asterisk installation to the last 1.2.31 I
can find in Asterisk.org site. Now for some reason my IAX clients
cannot connect to the server. I can do a "iax2 show peer iaxmodem1" and
I get this:
