Density Estimation
Hallo
I am trying to use the package LocFit to follow the example given in an
Introductory note of C Loader concerning density estimation. It involves
the "geyser" dataset (107 observations on durations, inlc in the
package).
I have tried the following (using the latest version of R):
fit.of <- locfit(~geyser,flim=c(1,6),alpha=c(0.15,0.9))
plot(fit.of,get.data=T,mpv=200)
This produces a plot (after several warnings).
My question is: how can I get the plot to cover...

Label rows of table by factor level for groups of factors
...nt combinations there are of these variables. What I should like to do is to add a column to my original dataframe which labels each row according to the unique combination of factors.
E.g. in the simple example below I create a dataframe 'df' with 3 columns, the values of which take 0 or 1. I can then classify each row in the table and I find that I have 4 unique combinations of factors. I would now like to add a fourth column to df which labels each row according to whether it was unique combination 1,2,3 or 4:
x1=c(rep(0:1,6))
x2=c(rep(c(1,1,0,0)6))
x3=c(rep(1,6),rep(0,6))
df=data...

mean
Hi,
I have gote the following data
x1 <- c(rep(1,6),rep(4,7),rep(6,10))
x2 <- rnorm(length(x1),6,1)
data <- data.frame(x1,x2)
and I would like to compute the mean of the x2 for each individual of x1, i. e. x1=1,4 and 6?
Thank you very much in advance,
Amori

med <- zp.res[, mean(media), by="sol,dia,con"]

Remove all spaces from a string so it can be used by assign()
Hi
I have a string "56 Fe [1]" that I would like to use as a variable name by using "assign" however I think the spaces and brackets might be causing R some trouble.
How can I change the string so that it just becomes 56Fe1 and can be used as a variable name.
Thank You
Kurt

How to deal with multiple patches to the same file

Does git keep all my branches up-to-date with the origin? Say I come in tomorrow and start working on a branch. Should I make sure I do a checkout on it again?
Is it sufficient to do a 'git show' and submit with Arcanist, or is there an intermediate step to format the patch file?

How does the cex parameter scale circles?
I'm wondering how the cex parameter is used to scale circles (i.e. does it scale the radius, diameter, area, circumference, etc.?). In my case I'm using lattice with filled circles (pch=19).
Based on example, it looks like R scales the radius of the circle:
library(lattice)
dta<-data.frame(x=rep(1,6),y=rep(1,6),sz=c(1,2,4,8,16,32))
xyplot(x~y,data=dta,col=rgb(0,0,0,50,maxColorValue=255),cex=dta$sz,pch=19)
But I haven't been able to find confirmation in any R documentati...
