Warning: Server lies about size of server public key: actual size...
...767 bits vs. announced 768. Warning: This may be due to an old implementation of ssh. When I looked in the list archives I see that there has been a conversation about this topic before back about a year ago. Currently we are going from Openssh version 3.4 to another version of ssh using protocol 1. We used this in our system test and have never encountered this message. From the looks of the archive list I thought this this fix was supposed to be implemented. Can anyone tell me the status of this issue? The Web Address that I was looking at for the related archives is: http://marc.theaim...

SRP for OpenSSH
Hello all Support for Secure Remote Password (SRP) for OpenSSH was last discussed in 2004: http://marc.info/?l=openssh-unix-dev&w=2&r=1&s=SRP&q=b There's a SRP patch for OpenSSL that's about 2 years in the making: http://rt.openssl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=1794 Tom Wu from Stanford has been working on that. Has anything changed since 2004 that would make inclusion of SRP in OpenSSH possible now? Regards Albe...

You must supply a password to make this connection - IPC$
Hi Folks, Just installed Samba 2.2.10 on my FreeBSD 4.9 computer. I can see the FreeBSD box on all of my Win 9x boxes, but when I double click on its icon, I get a rude box message that says something like: ==================================================== You must supply a password to make this connection Resource: \\SAMMY\IPC...

Very far out and static get_matches_estimated
Hi, I'm getting quite odd results using get_matches_estimated() that I haven't seen before; we've just added a bunch of new data to the database. Xapian 1.0.7, checkatleast is set to 100. The database will get new stuff added to it automatically around 8.30am BST, so it's possible this might affect the links I provide, I guess. But I'll note what is currently happening as I write. http://www.theyworkforyou.com/search/?pop=1&s=statisti...

Photoshop can't save files, gives bogus "Disk is full" error
...ng Photoshop not being unable to save files to a new file server which we just installed for the direct purpose of serving graphics files. When trying to Save As a new file or Save an edited (existing) file we're getting a response that the disk is full, which is far from true because we have 1.6 TB free. This happens both with a mapped drive and through Network Neighborhood. Photoshop is the _only_ application that causes this behavior. I have had similar issues a couple years ago with intermittant problem on a small SAMBA server but I never found a solution for it. I currently have ac...

smbfs size limit
...il now. I am working on a solution for a backup-problem and one possible solution could be the use of smbfs/smbmount. I am testing that now, mounting a WinXPHome(sorry, testing ...)-share which is 20GB of size (8GB used) to my linux-box. The linux-box is a bit more sophisticated (Kernel 2.6.0-test11 - Samba 3.0.0). I don?t want to get into details now, just my questions: - I am aware of a sizelimit of 2 GB or 4 GB when using smbfs. What is the limit exactly and where does it come from ? smbfs in the kernel ? smbmount ? - I read about several patches and stuff, but that was all for olde...

Connections suddenly closing
...s ago I turned off that switch so I could see what was happening, and today it finally happened again and gave me the above error. Note that I searched for anything similar in the archives of this list and found the following results: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=openssh-unix-dev&w=2&r=1&s=Connection+reset+by+peer&q=b However none of those seems to apply here, as in at least one case, the connection to the remote host was _not idle._ A couple example cases: 1) Had two connections open to a FreeBSD machine at a remote location; one was an idle shell, the other was activel...

PDF Creation

My Linux users have access to ps2pdf - a nice tool to convert Postscript files to PDF files.I'd like to make it available to my PC Users - who don't understand what a command line prompt is.... I know the following works: 1) On my Windows machine - Add a new printer an APPLE LASER POSTSCRIPT WRITER But specify it's output to be a FILE. 2) Print a document to the file. 3) Transfer it to my Linux box and run ps2pdf - works like a charm. So - why can't I do this with Samba (answer: I don't know samba...

LZO compression?
Hi, I don''t know if this has been discussed before, but have you thought about adding LZO compression to ZFS? One zfs-fuse user has provided a patch which implements LZO compression, and he claims better compression ratios *and* better speed than lzjb. The miniLZO library is licensed under the GPL, but the author specifically says that other licenses are available by request. Has this

CPU consumption by samba
Hi, I'm having strange performance problems with samba and an application written with VisualFox Pro. This application is entirely installed in a Windows share and it has a hystory of strange phenomenons. Initially it ran fast on an old NT server (but that server has been replaced). It has strange performance problems with Windows 2000 Server: it runs fast with some servers and slow with
