creating a factor
Hi list, I'd like to make a factor with seven 1s and three 2s using the factor() function. That is, 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 I will then bind this factor to the matrix below using cbind.data.frame(). 0.56 0.48 0.22 0.59 0.32 0.64 0.26 0.60 0.25 0.38 0.24 0.45 0.56 0.67 0.78 0.97 0.87 0.79 0.82 0.85 I am new to R and have been using various manuals and have made many attempts without

estimating NA values against selected slots
Dear R Users, Could you please help me on the following issue? I have a real large yearly data set. For each year I have 365 flow values. Some of the flow values are not known and that’s why you will see NA written in those slots. I wanted to know, is there a way that I can estimate those values? I tried approx command but it seems least helpful for the kind of issue I am up against.

How to delete duplicate cases?
Dear R users,   I have a dataframe with lot of duplicate cases and I want to delete duplicate ones which have low rank and keep that case which has highest rank. e.g   > df1   cno      rank 1  1342    0.23 2  1342    0.14 3  1342    0.56 4  2568    0.15 5  2568    0.89   so I want to keep 3rd and 5th  cases with highest rank (0.56 & 0.89) and delete rest of the duplicate cases. estimation of NA by predict command
Dear arun and all R users, I will first of all try to simply define my issue.. I have data in the following format Year Discharge dd/mm/yyyy x .. … … … There are some NA values in the discharge which I would like to predict by using “predict command”. I cant figure out the way to write the coding for that. Could you please help me on that??? I have also ,written

x and y lengths differ
I have a problem with R. I try to compute the confidence interval for my df. When I want to create the plot I have this problem: Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ. I try this code: library(dplR) df.rwi <- detrend(rwl = df, method = "Spline",nyrs=NULL) write.table(df.rwi,file="rwi.txt",quote=FALSE,row.names=TRUE)

diff in a dataframe
I have a dataframe say: date price_g price_s 0.34 0.56 0.36 0.76 . . . . . . and so on. say, 1000 rows. Is it possible to add two columns to this dataframe, by computing say diff(log(price_g) and diff(log(price_s)) ? The elements in the first row of these columns cannot be computed, but

linear regression on groups of consecutive rows of a matrix
I want to perform linear regression on groups of consecutive rows--say 5 to 10 such--of two matrices. There are many such potential groups because the matrices have thousands of rows. The matrices are both of the form: > shp[1:5,16:20] SL495B SL004C SL005C SL005A SL017A -2649 1.06 0.56 NA NA NA -2648 0.97 0.57 NA NA NA -2647 0.46 0.30 NA NA

Directshow filters updated (0.56)
The theora directshow filter now has basic seeking that doesn't lose sync. It doesn't seek to keyframes however so you get the brief period of mangled video until the next keyframe, but after a seek the audio and video do remain in sync. There is still the occasional crash when seeking in theora. The whole timestamping mechanism has been changed, this has had some slight negative effects

Help interpreting output of Rprof
Hello there, I am not quite sure how to interpret the output of Rprof (in the following the output I was staring at). I was poking around the web a little bit for documentation but without much success. I guess if I want to figure out what takes so long in my code the 2nd table $by.total and the total.pct column (pct = percent) is the most helpful. What does it mean that [ or [.data.frame is

Finding solution
Dear all, I have a system of simultaneous equations with 2 unknowns as follows: x*y + (1-x) = 0.05 x*(y - .5)^2 + (1-x)*0.6 = 0.56^2 Ofcourse I can do it manually however wondering whether there is any direct way in R available to get the solution of this system? Thanks and regards, [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

one problem
Dear Mr/Mrs I need to generate a random data only with (0.23, 0.56, 0.45, 0.85, 0.7) with known mean, SD, correlation length, in a matrix 50*50. I know R coeds but in this case, I could not find to generate only with finite numbers that I have. Please guide me . Best Regards Nooshin [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

simple intro to cluster analysis using R
I am looking for simple introduction to cluster analysis using R, that would be understandable to a novice in statistics. Or, could someone perhaps help me understand how to proceed in my analysis? I am very new to both statistics and R, but am trying hard to avoid having to use SPSS as everyone around me... I have dataset on people presenting their opinions on different religious

aggregating data
Hi, I am interested in using the cast function in R to perform some aggregation. I did once manage to get it working, but have now forgotten how I did this. So here is my dilemma. I have several thousands of probes (about 180,000) corresponding to each gene; what I'd like to do is obtain is a frequency count of the various occurrences of each probes for each gene. The data would look
