problem reading Matlab file into R
Hi,
I'm trying to read a .mat file into R (2.11.1) with medium success so far. The file I have is a MATLAB 5.0 MAT-file exported from RiverSurveyor LIVE software (http://www.sontek.com/software.php). I have R.matlab and Rcompression installed and readMat() starts reading the file, as can be seen in verbose mode (hence medium success), but then gives the following error:

Odd r-squared
Hi,
I would consider the calculation of r-squared in the following to be a
bug, but then, I've been wrong before. It seems that R looks to see if the
model contains an intercept term, and if it does not, computes r-squared in
a way I don't understand. To my mind, the following are two alternative
parametrizations of the same model, and should yield the same r-squared.
Any insight much

Missing p-values using lmer()
Hello,
I’m trying to perform a REML analysis using the lmer() function (lme4
package). Well, it seems to work well, except that I’m not getting any
p-value (see example below). Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
Thanks for your help,

Contingency table: logistic regression
Hi,
I am analyzing a data set with greater than 1000 independent cases
(collected in an unrestricted manner), where each case has 3 variables
associated with it: one, a factor variable with 0/1 levels (called XX),
another factor variable with 8 levels (X) and a third response variable
with two levels (Y: 0/1). I am trying to see if X1 has an effect on the
relationship between X2 and the

execution time of .packages
Hello,
The first time in a session I call .packages( all.available = T ), it
takes a long time (I have many packages installed from CRAN):
> system.time( packs <- .packages( all = T ) )
user system elapsed
0.738 0.276 43.787
When I call it again, the time is now much reduced, so there must be
some caching somewhere. I would like to try to reduce the time it takes

Dominant factors in aov?
Hi all,
I'm using R 2.0.1. for Windows to analyze the influence of following factors

lm coefficients output confusing
Hi all,
I have an issue with the lm() function regarding the listing of the
coefficients. My data are below, showing a list of hours (HR) relating to
the time spent resting (R) by an individual animal. Simply i want to run a
lm() to run in an anova() to see if there is a significant difference in
resting between hours.

R vs SPSS output for princomp
Hi,
I am using R to do a principal components analysis for a class
which is generally using SPSS - so some of my question relates to
SPSS output (and this might not be the right place). I have
scoured the mailing list and the web but can't get a feel for this.
It is annoying because they will be marking to the SPSS output.
Basically I'm getting different values for the component

glmer with non integer weights
hello,
i'd appreciate help with my glmer.
i have a dependent which is an index (MH.index) ranging from 0-1. this index
can also be considered as a propability. as i have a fixed factor (stage)
and a nested random factor (site) i tried to model with glmer. i read that
it's possible to use a quasibinomial distribution, for this kind of data,
which i than actually did - but firstly

How to read a file with two data sets in text format
Hello All,
I have a data file in a text format and there are two data sets. The data
set are continuous.
For each data set there is a header which has the number of data rows and
the name of data series.
For example first data set has "6240 Terry Cove-Model". Then the data for
that series follows upto 6240 rows. Then another data would start and it
will have the header such as

question about function "gls" in library "nlme"
Hi:
The gls function I used in my code is the following
fm<-gls(y~x,correlation=corARMA(p=2) )
My question is how to extact the AR(2) parameters from "fm".
The object "fm" is the following. How can I extract the correlation parameters
Phi1 and Phi2 from "fm"? These two parametrs is not in the "coef" componenet of "fm".
Thanks a

Multi-variate Probit model using Bayesm
Hello,
I have built a multi-variate probit model using the package "bayesm", which
requires that the X data is constructed using the function "CreateX". I've
gone through the documentation and run my model, but wanted to be sure about
my interpretation of the results for the coefficients - beta.
Steps:
1) I have 5 choices for the dependent variable Y, so p=5
2) I have 8

I’m trying to fit the following model:
Dependent variable: MAXDEPTH (the maximum depth reached by a penguin during

Fixed effects: SUCCESSMN (an index of the “individual quality” of a bird),
STUDYDAY (the day of the study, from -5 to 20, with 0=Dec 20), and the
interaction SUCCESSMN*STUDYDAY
Random effect: BIRD (the bird id, as each bird is performing several dives)

OK, Let's try this again! Here is the reproducible script; it is long because I had to copy the panel dataset here. My question is related to systemfit; I don't know how to get the result for the entire panel.

Pasting the code right into the email is usually safest, though you DO have to post using plain text (as the Posting Guide indicates) or your code may get mangled by the automatic html format removal.

Sadly you failed to set your email program to send plain text and the data is corrupted at my end.
I also think you need to reduce the size of the data set... the intent here is to increase your understanding, not debug your particular analysis.
I will say that I am having a very challenging time understanding what you are trying to accomplish though. What are the equations that you think need
