aggregate factor
Hi,
I am using aggregate to compute means for later plotting.
There are two factors involved and the problem is that the values of the
second factor ( Age ) in the means are not in the right order because
"10" comes inbetween "1" and "2"
What I really want is the numeric value of Age but as.numeric and
as.integer returns the level value instead.
Is there a way to

Fw: Do GLM by groups
Dear All,
I'm trying to do 'glm' analysis by groups just like in SAS you use "by
variable". I don't know how to do it in R, anyone can help with this?
i.e.
group line rep value

1 1 2 0.3
1 1 3 0.23
1 2 1 0.2
1 2 2 0.3

Converting array to matrix
Hi,
I have a 3d array as below, I want to make this array to a matrix of p=50(rows) and n=20(columns) with the coverage values .
The code before the array is:
library(binom)
Loading required package: lattice
pi.seq<-seq(from = 0.01, to = 0.5, by = 0.01)
no.seq<-seq(from = 5, to = 100, by = 5)
cp.all = binom.coverage( p = pi.seq, n = no.seq , conf.level = 0.95, method = "exact")

print table on plot
Hello,
I would like to be able to plot an array on a plot, something like:
|arg1 | arg2 | arg3
val1| 0.9 | 1.1 | 2.4
val2| 0.33 | 0.23 | -1.4
val3| hello| stop | test
I know Rwave is good to report but don't want to use it.
? Is there a package that allow quick and dirty plot of dataframes like this
?
Thanks a lot

Error when using step
I have two questions about the built-in function step. Ultimately I want to
apply a lm fitting and subsequent step procedure to thousands of data sets
groups by a factor defined as a unique ID.
Q1. The code below creates a data.frame comprising three marginally noisy
surfaces. The code below fails when I use step in a function but summary
seems to show the model fits are legitimate. Any ideas on

k- means cluster analysis
Hi all,
I am trying to run the k-means cluster analysis using the function kmeans
in the package cluster.
The data are:
x = c(-0.26, -0.23, -0.05, -0.20, 0.30, -0.84, -0.10, -0.12, 0.10, -0.31,
-0.19, 0.18, -0.26,
-0.23, -0.37, -0.23)
I've got two different solutions when I ran this function over a few times:
kmeans(x, centers=2)
The first solution gives the following:
$cluster

help
Hi all,
I have 2 questions:
1)How do I calculate the mean on an imported txt file? I've imported the
file below and that's what it looks like imported. How do I then calcuate
the mean, median, or mode on the column LeafArea using the desktop R
package?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,

Sparse matrix calculation
Hello,
I work on large matrices and found something interesting. For multiplication of matrices, the order has a huge influence on computing time when one of them is a sparse matrix. In the below example, M is a full matrix and A is a sparse matrix in a regular matrix class. A %*% M takes much more time than M %*% A; moreover, t(t(M) %*% t(A)) is much faster than A %*% M with same result. I

ordered factors in tree package - bug?
I am new to R, and didn't know which list to send this to, since it is a
bug report about a package, not about core R...
I have created a regression tree using 4 predictors: 3 are unordered
(binary) predictors, and the last is a date (integer), which I declare
to be an ordered factor. However, the tree treats the date as if it were
un-ordered, splitting into non-consecutive subsets.

property.rb moved between 0.22 and 0.23?
FYI: We have a custom `checkout'' type which stopped working when migrating
from 0.22.4 to 0.23.2-ish. This turned out to have been caused by the location
of property.rb changing between 0.22.4 (puppet/type/property.rb) and
0.23.2-ish (puppet/property.rb).
(I say 0.23.2-is because I''m using 40491ebe7ca9692b57fb533412ece8fb694b7d4c

update from 0.22.4 to 0.23.x, not migrating database schema
Hello everybody,
I have updated the puppetmaster from 0.22.4 to 0.23.0 (and today to
0.23.2). Although ''dbmigrate=true'' is turned on AND the puppetmaster is
saying it migrates the databse at startup, this does not happen.
When it should store configs, I get the error:
Could not store configs: Mysql::Error: #42S02Table

using eval-parse-paste in a loop
R-helpers
I have 120 small Excel sheets to read and I am using
library(xlsReadWrite): one example below.
I had hoped to read sheets by looping over a list of numbers in their
name (eg Book1.xls, Book2.xls, etc).
I thought I had seen examples which used eval-parse-paste in this way.
However, I have not been able to get it to work..
1. is this a feasible approach?
2. if not
