What is the recommended method to obtain Pan 0.136+ (with SSL) for Centos 6?
Q: What is the recommended method to obtain Pan 0.136+ (with SSL) for Centos 6? I've been successfully using Pan 0.135 from the RPMForge repository for about a year now: $ yum --noplugins --showduplicates --enablerepo \* --disablerepo c6-media,\*-source,\*debug\* provides "*/pan" ==> 1:pan-0.135-1.el6.rf.x86_64 : The Pan Newsreader ==> Repo : installed $ sudo yum

Multiple Comparisons-Kruskal-Wallis-Test: kruskal{agricolae} and kruskalmc{pgirmess} don't yield the same results although they should do (?)
Hi there, I am doing multiple comparisons for data that is not normally distributed. For this purpose I tried both functions kruskal{agricolae} and kruskalmc{pgirmess}. It confuses me that these functions do not yield the same results although they are doing the same thing, don't they? Can anyone tell my why this happens and which function I can trust? kruskalmc() tells me that there are no

Error in combined for() and if() code
Hello, I am trying to filter a data set like below so that the peaks in the Phase value are more obvious and can be identified by a peak finding function following the useful advise of Carl Witthoft. I have written the following for(i in length(data$Phase)){ newphase=if(abs(data$Phase[i+1]-data$Phase[i])>6){ data$Phase[i+1] }else{data$Phase[i] } } I get the following error which I have not

Bar plots with stacked columns marked with askterisks
Hi, I'm trying to plot bar graphs with stacked columns marked with askterisks for certain columns, which follow certain criteria. I've gotten the stacked bar plots with Data set A (please refer to code below). However, I haven't figured how to put asterisks on columns based on some extra information (such as "used/unused") as in Data set B i.e. asterisks at the

Extracting results from a function output
Hello, I am having hard time obtaining a value from a function. "fit" is a survival function that produces some results, such as "median", "confidence intervals" etc. But str() function does not list these values. How can I extract these to be able use them? For example, I need "median" value for the group DrugA which is 48. "Print" function does

Puzzled with contour()
Folks, The contour() function wants x and y to be in increasing order. I have a situation where I have a grid in x and y, and associated z values, which looks like this: x y z [1,] 0.00 20 1.000 [2,] 0.00 30 1.000 [3,] 0.00 40 1.000 [4,] 0.00 50 1.000 [5,] 0.00 60 1.000 [6,] 0.00 70 1.000 [7,] 0.00 80 0.000 [8,] 0.00 90

Plotting Data Frame
Dear R community members, I think I am asking a very simple question, but I really looked up in the faqs and manuals and found nothing helpful. I am trying to plot a data frame with the following structure (this is just a small extract): glo conc odor line series X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 X6 X7 X8 X9 X10 X11 X12 X13 1 0 AIR LN1 UP -0.488

[LLVMdev] [Polly]GSoC Proposal: Reducing LLVM-Polly Compiling overhead
Dear Tobias Grosser, Today I have rebuilt the LLVM-Polly in Release mode. The configuration of my own testing machine is: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390(1.86GHz) with 2GB DDR2 memory. I evaluated the Polly using PolyBench and Mediabench. It takes too long time to evaluate the whole LLVM-testsuite, so I just choose the Mediabench from LLVM-testsuite. The preliminary results of Polly compiling

as.Date.character speed improvement suggestion
R-Devel, I store and retrieve a large amount of financial data (millions of rows) in a PostgreSQL database keyed by date (and represented in R by class Date). Unfortunately, I frequently find that a great deal of processing time is spent converting dates from character representations to Date class representations in R, presumably because strptime is not fast for large vectors (>10,000

when to use "I", "as is" caret
Dear community, I've check it while working, but just to reassure myself. Let's say we have 2 models: model1 <- lm(vdep ~ log(v1) + v2 + v3 + I(v4^2) , data = mydata) model2 <- lm(vdep ~ log(v1) + v2 + v3 + v4^2, data = mydata) So in model1 you really square v4; and in model2, v4*^2 *doesn't do anything, does it? Model2 could be rewritten: model2b <- lm(vdep ~

Hmisc label function applied to data frame
Hello, I'm attempting to create a data frame with correlations between every pair of variables in a data frame, so that I can then sort by the value of the correlation coefficient and see which pairs of variables are most strongly correlated. The sm2vec function in the corpcor library works very nicely as shown here: library(Hmisc) library(corpcor) # Create example data x1 = runif(50) x2 =

Calculating & plotting a linear regression between two correlated variables
Hi, I have a Community (COM) composed of 6 species: A, B, C, D, E & F. The density of my Community is thus (Eq.1): dCOM = dA + dB + dC + dE + dF I would like to calculate and plot a linear regression between the density of each of my species and the density of the whole community (illustrating how the density of each species varies with variations of the whole community). For example, I would

SUMMARY: making contour plots using (x,y,z) data
Folks, A few days ago, I had asked a question on this mailing list about making a contour plot where a function z(x,y) is evaluated on a grid of (x,y) points, and the data structure at hand is a simple table of (x,y,z) points. As usual, R has wonderful resources (and subtle complexity) in doing this, and the gurus of the list showed me the way. Here's a complete working example. One might

generalized mixed linear models, glmmPQL and GLMER give very different results that both do not fit the data well...
Hi, I have the following type of data: 86 subjects in three independent groups (high power vs low power vs control). Each subject solves 8 reasoning problems of two kinds: conflict problems and noconflict problems. I measure accuracy in solving the reasoning problems. To summarize: binary response, 1 within subject var (TYPE), 1 between subject var (POWER). I wanted to fit the following model:

MIXED MODEL WITH REPEATED MEASURES
I am trying to specify a mixed model for my research, but I can't quite get it to work. I've spent several weeks looking thru various online sources to no avail. I can't find an example of someone trying to do precisely what I'm trying to do. I'm hoping some smart member of this mailing list may be able to help. First off, full disclosure: (1) I'm an engineer by trade, so
