No, they are the packages required (along with /etc/nsswitch.conf mods) 
to make 'getent' work and are not required on a DC.

I have  just installed these packages:

apt-get install samba attr winbind  krb5-config krb5-user

Would you need to install any specific package such as python?

No, just installing these packages should have also installed any 
required dependencies.
