I compiled an older version of Samba, 4.5.9, in CentOS7 using the guide, however, I am unable to start the service. Samba also does not appear in the “systemctl” list, nor does it appear in init.d after successful compilation and installation with no errors. The “smbd -b” commands reports that Samba is installed.
How are you trying to start Samba? You want a stand alone server or AD DC? Samba can not start without a valid smb.conf! Is your samba environment located in "/usr/local/samba" Regards Micha Am 21.
