Hi, Good day! I have a few questions regarding the status of Samba 3.6, I know it's now EOL but I'll ask anyway. We currently have a large install base of Samba version 3.6 at the moment in our environment and we can't migrate immediately. My question is, do you still release security patches (at least the highly critical ones) for Samba 3.6? Or is it completely unsupported now? Thank you

I cannot understand you saying that you can't 'migrate' yet, what is wrong with upgrading Samba ? Samba 4 can do everything that 3.6 can, there may have to be slight modifications to smb.conf but it should work (unless you are running samba in a weird way). It may help if you posted a sanitized version of your present smb.conf Rowland
Hallo, John, Du meintest am 29.06.15:> Good day! Or do you only need a version without Kerberos and LDAP (just naming 2 major differences)? I'm using on several machines Samba 4.1 in the "old fashioned" way: starting smbd and nmbd like in versions 3.6 and older, with an only gradually changed "init" script. Works very well. Viele Gruesse! Helmut

Or is it completely unsupported now? There won't be work by the Samba Team on 3.6 anymore. But if you are for example under a RH contract, they will very likely port back patches for quite a while. Also, you might contract someone from https://www.samba.org/samba/support/ for extended security support. I just ask to make sure, that you don't hit the common misconception, that Samba 4.x means AD only. See https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba#Common_misconceptions_about_Samba_4 Regards, Marc
Thank you for the responses! Hi Helmut, I actually prefer moving into a newer version that has all the great new features, but due to policies inside our firm it will be a long process. I find the idea of modifying the new version Samba to start up like the old version. Very crafty! :) Hi Volker, yes we do have a support contract with Red Hat and Oracle. The version we are currently using is compiled by us and not from any vendor. Thank you suggestion, I'll try to ask the Samba team.
