Thanks. Is there any way I can figure out all parameters I need to modify
during the upgrade process ?

You shouldn't have to modify anything, the upgrade should do it for you, 
you are upgrading correctly aren't you ?

Also, please don't use 4.2.0rc4, use the latest stable version: 
https://download.samba.org/pub/samba/stable/samba-4.1.16.tar.gz
