samba - Aug 2014 - Flexible Single-Master Operations (FSMO) documentation

Hello,

I wrote a major extension of the FSMO documentation:

We often had questions on the list about the FSMO roles and the
consequences, when DCs owning roles are offline.

I hope this will be a good reference.

Very interesting piece of reading. Thanks a lot.

Perhaps it's a good idea to add to the docs the current bug, where not 
all roles are transferred using 'samba-tool fsmo transfer role=all', and
some remain on the old DC. (and thus demoting an old DC fails)

I think that the remaing two roles can be changed like:

ldbedit -H sam.ldb -b 'CN=Infrastructure,DC=ForestDnsZones,DC=...'
and
ldbedit -H sam.ldb -b 'CN=Infrastructure,DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=...'

there you can change the fsmo rule owner. (I guess that demoting the old 
DC should work then, but haven't tested that)

That looks like a nice start, thanks!

A note that this mostly reflects the Windows world would be good.
As doesn't implement every role and the implemented roles are not completely
implemented.

Also the DomainDnsZones and ForestDnsZones Partitions have their own
Infrastructure
fSMORoleOwner, which is currently not handles by samba-tool fsmo.
