[Samba] Braindead Autoreply filters... WAS Re: samba Digest, Vol 102, Issue 8
It would be nice if one of the list moms would immediately unsubscribe AND PERMANENTLY BAN idiots who use braindead autoreply filters. This should be official list policy for ALL email lists... I am not sure how much control some e-mail apps/servers give you over auto-replies- Exchange 2007/Outlook 2007 lets you set a separate reply for internal vs external senders, and lets you restrict external responses to only senders in your address book. You can of course create a custom wizard to send replies to all users with specific exceptions. My own solution was to use my gmail acct and NOT use my work e-mail for most list subscriptions- that way I can limit Out of Office replies strictly to work related e-mail (and therefore to people who actually care if I am out of the office or not.) They're punished because someone in their IT department made a decision which they had no input in? (This is also why I have lists always go to my personal address, which has ended changing a lot less often than my work address.) Incidentally, RFC 3834 ("Recommendations for Automatic Responses to Electronic Mail") has some really good stuff. Hopefully it will be implemented more.
