samba - Sep 2003 - Problem installing samba-2.2.8a from tarball

hi

i uninstalled samba from my system.
i got the tarball form samba site.

i ran
1. ./configure --with-winbind-auth-challenge
2. make
3. make install.

i check rpm -q samba but its not installed.
can someone tell me what i am doing wrong.

Installing it via "make install" does not update any rpm info.  If you
want
it to do that, look in the "packaging" subdirectory for info on how to
make
a rpm installation.
