samba - Sep 2003 - System instability due to access through xp on fat32 share

When I access a share on my Linux Box, my whole system is instable.
Accessing ssh takes ages. And restarting the samba dameons helps nothing,
only a reboot brought back system stability, but only till I connect from my
Windows Systems again. Has anyone got an idea?
