[Samba] opera is unable to install on w2k sp2 from a samba-share
hi all,
i have a mysterious problem:
i have samba 2.2.3a with kernel 2.4.16 on a suse 7.3 with w2k-clients.
on other setup is 2.2.3a with acl-support running on suse 7.3 with kernel
2.4.18-xfs also with w2k sp2 clients will try tomorrow nt4sp6.
on both systems i have the problem, that i am unable to install opera 6.0 from
the sambashare, after a double-click nothing happens. if i try to install sp2
(which lies uncompressed on the samba-share) the setup-routine complains about
missing files.
in both cases (opera and sp2 install) i can copy all files over to the
local-harddisk and start it from there --> no problem.
the system are different network.
in our production environment we have samba 2.2.3a on a suse 6.3 (six.three)
running kernel 2.2.17 with nt4 clients, there is at least with opera not this
problem.
i will try in the acl -setup tomorrow nt4 clients to see what happens, but i
want to ask, if there are already some expierence or is the error located in the
libraries?
any ideas
thanx 4 all answers

[Samba] re: opera is unable to install on w2k sp2 from a samba-share
hi all, as yesterday promised some more information about the problem, that some application are not able to start from a samba-share: 1) w2ksp2 samba2.2.3a suse7.3 opera --> NOT starting 2) w2ksp2 samba2.2.3a suse7.3 ns communicator --> starting 3) nt4sp6 samba2.2.3a suse7.3 opera --> starting here only the client and the program changed, the w2k client was tested on two clients. 4) w2ksp2 samba2.2.3a suse6.3 opera --> starting i took one of the w2k clients and connected them to our productive system, which i tested yesterday with nt4sp6 it works also, so i suspect it depend on suse 7.3 or kernel 2.4 maybe this helps more. thanx for any information. thomas ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through encrypted https://webmail.tronicplanet.de

Hi Thomas! Just want to notify you, that I have exactly the same problem related to the Opera (6.x) setup on different kernrel versions (2.2.x and 2.4.x) and on different samba versions (2.2.x). I didn't invest time in investigantions, so I don't have a solution... [Samba] re: opera is unable to install on w2k sp2 from a samba-share
hi johannes, do you have this also only with window 2000? the point for me is, it isnt only opera, if i try to install win2k sp2, which is uncompressed on a samba-share, the setup-routine complains about missing files. after copieng over the complete directory to localharddisk, everything works. so the file is not missing. the opera is the easiest to reproduce the error. you have the problem also only with 2.2.3a and w2k? but also running on different kernel-version (2.4.x and 2.2.x)? greetings thomas ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through encrypted https://webmail.tronicplanet.de

[Samba] re: opera is unable to install on w2k sp2 from a samba-share
Dear Thomas, I have recognized the problem only with the Opera installation routine. I did not notice it with the sp-w2k. But today (after receiving your mail) I have tested the opera installation again on my w2k machine and- it worked. What I have changed? I updated to samba 2.2.4-pre on March 4th; this version seem to solve the problems. The 2.2.4-pre also resolved many other problems related to the printing system and w2k clients for me. It looks very stable; crashes with my PMMail mailing-software that came with version 2.2.3a are gone.
