[Samba] 2.2.3a, Win2k, Scheduled Tasks, Connection Flood
Win2k Task Scheduler Service will not run as Admin, only SYSTEM. You can set a task to run under a user account (DOMAIN\Admin) but if the task requires a mapped drive it fails. The task will complete if you login as DOMAIN\Admin at the Win2k Console and stay logged in. However, this will randomly flood the network with reconnect attempts. Here is the log entry: Mar 21 03:03:36 corpsrvr smbd[1817]: [2002/03/21 03:03:36, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(587) Mar 21 03:03:36 corpsrvr smbd[1817]: citrix (192.168.1.12) Can't change directory to /home/ntadmin (Permission denied) Yesterday, there were 18000 of these in the log in 3 hours and the network slowed down due significantly due to the number of requests. (sets of 10 per second, 20 sets per minute, 30 per hour). The Administrator is mapped to ntadmin which has a home folder and can login OK. It seems that the connection is getting broken and something in Win2K goes nuts trying to reconnect. Removing the Admin login on the Win2K Console ends the reconnect problem, but now we're back to the Task problem. Will research further and keep everyone posted.
