samba - Mar 2002 - smbd exits without any messages or action

Hello all

1.  Built package with ./configure-developer script,
make, make install...
2.  configured sample smbd.conf and ran testparm on
it.  No problems
3.  ran smbd, its exits without any messages.  Set a
breakpoint with gdb in main(), it never gets hit.

any idea

Run smbd -i -d 10 and see what the output says.
(-i tells smbd not to detach from the tty and fork).
