Hello, I use samba 2.2.1.a on a Redhat 7.2 Linux Server. I would like to know if it is safe to stop and restart samba while Windows client users are still connected ? If not, how can I reload the new configuration hold in "smb.conf" without disconnect all the currently connected users ? Thank for your help ______________________________________________ R?mi SERRANO Service informatique - TEXA Services 05-62-88-40-24 -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
!/bin/sh # #ident "@(#)startsmb 98/01/06 SMI" # # DLS 2-9-99 Update for multiple server supprot # kick samba kickproc() { # HUP the named process(es) pid=`/usr/bin/ps -e | /usr/bin/grep -w $1 | /usr/bin/sed -e 's/^ *//' -e 's/ .*//'` [ "$pid" != "" ] && kill -HUP $pid } # kick the samba smb deamon server=`hostname` ; export server kickproc smbd echo "smbd done" kickproc nmbd echo "nmbd done" /bin/csh -c 'echo \"New Samba config registered on server \" \ |/usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient -M $server -n MYCLIENT' tail -f /usr/local/samba/var/log.smb works for me...of course - the effects on clients depend on changes you made to smb.conf ;-)
/etc/init.d/smb reload will do what your asking (as root), all its doing is HUPing the smb master process but it should work ----- Original Message ----- From: R?mi SERRANO To: samba@lists.samba.org Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 9:48 AM Subject: [Samba] reloading smb.conf Hello, I use samba 2.2.1.a on a Redhat 7.2 Linux Server. Hi Just save the new smb.conf file in it?s location (/usr/local/samba/lib in my instalation) and all the samba daemons will see it and load it automaticaly. There is no need to stop the server nor send a signal to it.
