[Samba] Problems with samba caused my multiple user accounts with the same uid
I finally figured out what was causing me problems with W2K and Samba 2.2.2 on FreeBSD. By default, FreeBSD has 2 user accounts with uid of 0, root and toor. This makes it impossible to join W2K to a Samba hosted domain, NT complains of a failed RPC call, and the smb logs direct the user to read BUGS.txt and report the problem. I removed the toor account, and the problem vanished. I haven't confirmed, but I believe this problem also causes Swat to coredump under some conditions (adding new accounts to smbpasswd). Has this already been addressed and fixed in 2.2.3 or can anyone confirm that the problem is still there? I probably won't be able to get a test environment available to install 2.2.3 for a few weeks. -- Bill Moran Potential Technology potentialtech.com
