I want to allow a remote user access to my files and his files at the same time. He runs Windows 2000, and I run Linux with Samba. He can use PuTTY (or any other SSH client) to SSH to my machine. I've used a remote -> local SSH session before to allow a remote user access, but that time, the user had smbclient, which is more versatile than Windows. So far, I have PuTTY doing Connection -> SSH -> Tunnels, "Local ports" etc., port R1039 -> <test machine>:139. When I log in from there to my Linux box, I can see 1/0 eben@pc.ttyp2:~ > netstat -A inet -a [...] tcp 0 0 localhost:1039 *:* LISTEN [...] But when I do 2/0 eben@pc.ttyp2:~ > smbclient -L micron -I localhost -U 'hoyt dow' -p 1039 INFO: Debug class all level = 2 (pid 31554 from pid 31554) added interface ip=192.168.1.11 bcast=192.168.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 added interface ip=192.168.2.1 bcast=192.168.2.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 session request to MICRON failed (Called name not present) session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Called name not present) ('hoyt dow' is the username on the test box, a W98 machine named 'micron') What am I forgetting?
