Any help appreciated. You can either ./smbd -D ./nmbd -D in the directory where they are located, or /full/path/to/smbd -D /full/path/to/nmbd -D or put symlinks to them in a location such as /usr/sbin then as root smbd -D nmbd -D from anywhere you are. 1) Please don't send html email to the list, and 2) If you are in the directory where the command resides, you have to run it as follows: ./smbd It won't work without the "./" in front of it (and no space between them, either). Followed install details to the letter, however, when I try to start the smbd and nmbd daemons I get the following: bash: smbd: command not found and bash: nmbd: command not found I see it with ls, other executables in that directory work...am I missing something here? Any help appreciated. I am using the Mandrake stream of Linux. Thanks
They may no be in your path. While in the directory with the executables, try: ./smbd ./nmbd Joel On Thu, Dec 13, 2001 at 03:05:11PM -0600, Michael Dyer wrote:> Hello all, > I am doing my first samba install and have run into an issue. In unix there are strict rules followed due to security concerns. Just typing the command will search those directories in your PATH environmental variable. By default, the current directory is NOT searched for an executable. Joel On Thu, Dec 13, 2001 at 04:14:35PM -0600, Michael Dyer wrote:> I tried this and did not get the error. Any help appreciated.Usually root does not have the current directory (.) in its path. Try ./smbd or the whole path /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd. Make sure the executabel bit is set.
