HELLO ! I HAVE SOME STRANGE PROBLEMS AND I NEED HELP. I DIDN'T FIND SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE MAILING LIST, SO POSSIBLY I HAVE OVERLOOKED SOMETHING VERY SIMPLE. WHAT I USE *********** SOLARIS 8; SAMBA 2.2.2 (DEFAULT COMPILATION AND INSTALLATION) WIN-BOXES: WIN2K (NATIVE INSTALLATION AND SOME WITH SP2); WINNT4; ALL MS-BOXES POINT TO THE SAMBA SERVER AS A WINS SERVER TWO WORKGROUPS IN SUBNET: PET.UNIVIE AND PETROLOGY: THE LATTER SHOULD BE "DEVELOPED" TO A DOMAIN WITH SAMBA AS PDC. PHYSICAL NETWORK **************** VLAN (IP=131.130.193.*; NETMASK=255.255.255.192; BROADCAST=131.130.193.191; GATEWAY=131.130.193.129). PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH VLANs THAT ARE MENSIONED BY PAUL GREEN (WWW:SAMBA:ORG/DOCS/SAMBA 2.0.x TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE; MS-KNOWLEDGEBASE Q190930) ARE KNOWN TO ME. HOWEVER, THE STUFF IN CHARGE OF SEGMENTATION OF THE PHYSICAL LAN HAVE ACERTAINED THAT SWITCHES AND ROUTERS ARE CONFIGURED AS SHOULD BE BEST FOR BROWSING. AS SOME NEW INSTALLATIONS ON ROUTERS AND SWITSCHES HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT RECENTLY BY THE STUFF, I HOPE THAT SOMEBODY CAN HELP ME PROVING THAT THIS IS NOT THE CASE. NOTE HOWEVER THAT UNTIL RECENTLY I HAVE USED SAMBA 2.06 WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. SO, I THINK THAT THE VLAN MAY BE CONFIGURED OK. NOTE ALSO THAT IF SAMBA IS CONFIGURED JUST AS A SIMPLE MEMBER OF THE WORKGROUP PETROLOGY, I.E. WINS SUPPORT = YES PREFERED MASTER = NO DOMAIN MASTER = NO OS LEVEL = 20 LOCAL MASTER = NO BROWSING WORKS FINE FOR BOTH WORKGROUPS. HOWEVER, FOR THE CONFIGURATION SHOWN BELOW, BROWSING DOES NOT WORK FOR WORKGROUP PETROLOGY. THIS IS TRUE FOR ALL BOXES IRRESPECTIVE OF THE OS LEVEL OR THE INSTALLATION OF SERVICE PACKS.
