problems with logon scripts for user names longer than 8 characters
I can not get the logon script to run for users with longer than 8 characters on win98/me clients. I get an error when they logon Access denied Y: access denied jvand~H8.bat. (real file name is jvanderweide.bat) The permissions are rw for both owner and group in the netlogon share. Any suggestions to fix this? Other than shorten the username :).

problems with logon scripts for user names longer than 8 characters
I just found my problem. It has to do with the fact that I am transitioning from a novell network to my linux/samba one. It seems the novell client 32 for win9x/me machines doesn't like to run those files that are greater than 8.3 from a dos window over the network. I removed the client from a couple of workstations and the script ran like it was suppose to. Once the transition is complete (hopefully this weekend) I shouldn't have this problem. Sorry for spamming the mailing list. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Helder" <sshelder@home.com> To: <samba@lists.samba.org> Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 8:46 AM Subject: problems with logon scripts for user names longer than 8 characters> I can not get the logon script to run for users with longer than 8 > characters on win98/me clients.
