I apologize if this question has been asked before. I have searched the archive and haven't found an answer. I am running Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 SPARC machine as a member server. I have it setup to log to syslog at level 1. If I use smbclient to test the connection and give it an invalid password, I get about 500Kb of logs that look like this: Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] [2001/11/13 13:00:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(343) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (no :) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] [2001/11/13 13:00:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(343) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (no :) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] [2001/11/13 13:00:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(343) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (no :) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] [2001/11/13 13:00:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(343) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (no :) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] [2001/11/13 13:00:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(343) Nov 13 13:00:28 server.foo.com smbd[6722]: [ID 702911 local7.error] getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (no :) Here is a relevent section from smb.conf: [global] security = domain password server = server1 server2 encrypt passwords = true workgroup = DOMAIN debug level = 1 syslog = 1 syslog only = yes Anyone else run into this? With 2.0.10, it logged two lines in syslog after a failed password. Thanks, - Steve
