Hi Samba Gurus, This is the first time I am posting a question to this list so please forgive my ignorance as my experience on windows is very limited. I have users who are unable to connect to the Samba server from a windows NT4.0 machine ( service pack4) when configured as either Domain or workgroup. However the users can succesfully connect when they are logged on a Windows95 machine, configured as a Domain. Their PC logins are held on a windows NT4.0 server machine, and they all have logins on the Samba box ( running Solaris 2.6). smbd -V => Version 2.0.6 Please could anyone help. Thankyou. Unable to connect to samba server from Nt machine
Hello Tajinder, Looking at your smb.conf file, I notice that you are in share level security, and since the line encrypted passwords = yes is not in your smb.conf file, you are only able to process non-encrypted passswords. Windows 95 by default sends plaintext passwords, which is why your win95 clients are working (I think). But NT SP4 by default will NOT send plaintext passwords, hence (again, I think) your problem. You can apply a registry change on your nt4 client to allow it to send unencrypted (plaintext passwords) if you wish; if you move the file /usr/local/samba/docs/NT4_PlainPassword.reg to your NT pc and double click on it, it will enable your NT client to send plaintext passwords. Hope this helps, don -----Original Message----- From: Tajinder Panesar [mailto:titch@psd.asn.alcatel.co.uk] Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2001 12:40 PM To: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Unable to connect to samba server from Nt machine Hi Samba Gurus, This is the first time I am posting a question to this list so please forgive my ignorance as my experience on windows is very limited.
