We observed the following bug: Server: SGI Origin 2000 OS: IRIX 6.5.7f Samba: 2.0.7 Client: Windows NT 4 Service Pack 6 Software on client: InstallShield Express 3.03 We have a large software project which is packaged for installation on the PC using InstallShield Express 3.03. A number of directories on the Unix server are specified to InstallShield. During processing, InstallShield fails to copy all of the files from two of these directories, both of which have over 512 files in them. The following results occur: Directory # Files Copied Failed to Copy BitMaps 678 541 123 HelpFiles 537 481 56 The remaining directories, all of which have less than 512 files in them, copy fine. The consequence of this is that it is impossible to use the generated installshield setup.exe for installation of our software. We eliminated InstalllShield, per se, by running the same operations from an NT based server across the network, as well as from a local filesystem on the PC running InstallShield, both of which worked fine. -Mahlon ------------------------------------------------------------- Mahlon Stacy Internet: mcs@mayo.edu Mayo Foundation (507) 284-4558 Medical Science Bldg 1-43 FAX (507) 284-1632 Rochester, MN 55905 -------------------------------------------------------------

What error message do you see on the client? Jerry, We ran the process with level 10 debug turned on. It generated a 447 MB log file, which I can push up to our ftp server if you're interested. We checked the results, and the process failed exactly as before, so it's very repeatable. Perhaps it would be more efficient if you gave me some pointers, and I could reduce the data somewhat. Based on a cursory look, InstallShield is accessing every file hundreds of times. -Mahlon> -----Original Message----- > From: Gerald Carter [mailto:gcarter@valinux.com] > Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2001 7:34 AM > To: Mahlon Stacy > Cc: 'samba@lists.samba.org' > Subject: Re: dropping files in copy bug > > > Mahlon Stacy wrote: > > > > We observed the following bug: > > > > Server: SGI Origin 2000 > > OS: IRIX 6.5.7f > > Samba: 2.0.7 > > > > Client: Windows NT 4 Service Pack 6 > > Software on client: InstallShield Express 3.03 > > > > We have a large software project which is packaged for installation > > on the PC using InstallShield Express 3.03.
